22. We're All Worried About You Peggy. Italics Is A Gateway Formatting Code...

Next thing you know you'll be underlining, and bolding... then it's on to the hard stuff like headlines, bullets and block-indents. Some people even get hooked on multiple combinations of formatting... like bold-italics or italics and underlines at the same time.

Once you start, there's no way out. It's a long dark spiraling descent into hell. Please stop before it's too late!

... next thing you know you're out on the net, begging for more formatting tips because you're addicted. The "ordinary" stuff isn't good enough anymore because you've built up a tolerance to it. The only thing that will satisfy your formatting cravings it for more more and still more. Bigger, brighter, bolder, fancier, more colorful... NOTHING seems to satisfy your cravings.

If you're lucky, your friends and family will intevene... if you're unlucky... you'll discover FONTS, typestyles, drop-shadows, beveled-edges, chrome effects and lens flares. These are NOT toys... they are to be used by PROFESSIONALS only... people who are TRAINED to use such special effects.

By then it's too late. You'll be past the point of no return. All anyone can do is pray for you and watch helplessly as you ruin your life in that endless search for that one formatting fix that will top all the others. But the thing is, it never comes.

You'll just end up being a formatting junkie. Please don't let that happen to you. We care too much. It would break our hearts to see you go down that road.
