Well, the World Cup has started and everybody is going crazy
I've never seen anything like it before. All day, I hardly met people not wearing some soccer jersey. Every store has at least one flag out (sometimes upside down); not just German flags, but seeing those is most unusual.
Cars are sporting flags, every backyard seems to hove a big-screen to show the matches. The mood is great, unlike at big events in the past, I haven't seen any ugly scenes.

Even now, at 2:30AM, there are still people driving through the streets and honking - a tad overblown after a hard-earned opening-round match win by the hosting team. Well, whatever; tomorrow I'll check out another location to watch the matches. Party on.

8. i was saying that
there is no love lost between Germany fans and Poland fans, so a strong Germany win on the first day coupled with Poland being upset must have made the fans even happier

9. no, i saw nothing of that sort
It's less than an hour from the border and a lot of Polish fans are around. People would have liked a draw or a Polish victory better, for strategic reasons in the group phase. Poland isn't like England or the Netherlands in this regard.

4. In Frankfurt it was as crazy
the people behaved after the game like we won the World Cup already. But it was a good game and I enjoyed watching it on the river with thousands of other people. They said in the news there were between 35.000 and 40.000 people at the Main Arena.
Oh and the Brits invaded Frankfurt and took over the Römer yesterday.

6. I wish I was still in Hannover.
That way I could have joined in the festivities there :) :hi:

But I do remember the hype from World Cup 2002 when I was in Germany.
