2. Only 4 strings?
Feh.

I kid. That's pretty cool. My fingerpicking style is pretty similar to his actually. Perhaps I should find a nice ukelele.

And you're right....his IS cute.

7. Wow. just WOW!
you are right: this is the MOST amazing young artist I have seen in a loooonnnnngggg time! That was an absolutely beautiful rendition of 'While My Guitar Gentle Sleeps' by George Harrison. I did a background Google on him, and his name is Jake Shimabukuro, and he is known as the Jimmy Hendrix of ukulele playing! He has won all sorts of awards, and has opened for some pretty big names. He also has 3 albums out, soon to be 4 at the end of this summer.

Thank you for introducing him!

12. thanks for the legwork! (fingerwork?)
I'll keep my ears open for more of his work. Perhaps if this keeps getting forwarded, we can help his career even more? ;-)

17. I knew it had to be Jake!
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 03:53 PM by KamaAina
He's a huge crowd-pleasing favorite back in Hawai'i. He's been featured in several TV commercials there, one for Road Runner ('cause RR's as fast as his playing, get it?) Nowadays he's mostly over in Japan, where he is becoming equally as huge.

edit: Oh yes, the instrument is called 'ukulele, literally meaning "jumping or dancing flea".
