Poll question: Where do you fall on the Kinsey Scale?
In honor of the bisexual thread in GD, here's a poll on the Kinsey Scale for DUers. For the record, I'm a 5.

Feel free to throw out any opinions and whatever too.

I hate being straight. Thanks Mom and Dad, for failing to give me any "gay" genes. Sucks.

5. In my family, it just pops up randomly.
So far it seems confined to my father's mother's side though. I most likely also have a gay stepbrother, but he's only 13...we'll know eventually.

7. My Dad's sister is gay. And according to that same auntie,
so was my Dad's mother. And I got most of my "girl" parts and health issues from my Dad's side. Why, WHY couldn't I have gotten the good genes, too?! Not fair!

(And yes, before anyone posts it, I did try to switch teams in college. Got rejected by a lot of women, one of who finally pointed out that trying to date gay and bi ladies because I couldn't find any men I didn't hate was...kinda messed up and wrong. And not very self-respecting. Turns out, sexual identity isn't something you can just throw on or discard at will. Which kinda bites for me.)

56. Not sure why you think the-way-it-is bites
but I agree.

The more I look at this issue, the more I'm convinced it's just about 100% nature. When nurture gets involved, it's really only muddying up (or then again, perhaps sometimes clarifying?) nature.

11. Is there a test for this or something?
What does it mean to be "incidentally" homosexual or heterosexual? Is being incidentally homosexual, for a man, liking Elton John music? How about drinking beer and farting in public for gay men to be incidentally heterosexual? Silly numbers. :)

As far as my own number, I'm whatever will mostly likely piss off Pat Robertson.

41. The test I took many years ago
tested for attraction. As a woman I was asked if I could find other women attractive, even in a nonsexual way. I said yes (as I said in another post I can find beauty in nearly everyone). They also asked me questions like if I ever found myself in love with someone of the same sex would I automatically rule out a romantic relationship. My answer was no-love is too hard to find in this world and if I'm attracted to someone I'd like to find out why and what it is about that person that is causing the attraction whether they are same or opposite sex.

Though I've never been in a relationship with a woman and have never found myself attracted to a woman on a sexual level I still scored a three. Truthfully, some of the test just seems to deal with how open you are to different possibilities.

I have a very strong leaning towards homosexual attraction. Very rarely, I am attracted to somebody of the opposite sex, but it does happen once in a rare while. My behavior is mostly homosexual, but I've also had heterosexual experiences.

38. I've taken the test in the past.
Though I've always identified myself as hetero I usually come up as a three.

I've never been involved in a relationship with a woman but I'm not afraid to admit that there is beauty in both sexes (I can find beauty in almost anything) and I'm not the type to rule out love for anyone. My psych prof many years ago said that, IHO, I had the healthiest score out of anyone in the class and probably one of the most honest.

I've never been sexually attracted to a man in my 31 years. I'm not so presumptive to say it's impossible, though. I could very likely be a zero; but I don't like to assume that all that has been is all that will ever be.

48. Interestingly enough...
I just picked up the movie made about Kinsey at the library yesterday and watched it. I enjoyed it, and was amazed that, fifty plus years down the line, what Kinsey was doing still has the power to shock and inform. Especially now that we are experiencing a re-surge of Conservative nut-cakes trying to return us all to the good old days when people mostly didn't have sex except to procreate. Kinsey's work blew that myth outta the water half a century ago.

Interesting fact: Kinsey's parents were fanatical Christian Fundamentalists.

Oh, and I think I'm a five.

54. Let me ask you this...
I find women attractive, but not in a sexual way. I can acknowledge when a woman is beautiful, and think to myself that if I were sexually attracted to women, she'd be one of 'em. If I ever found myself having feelings for a woman I would not rule out the possibility of a relationship. It just doesn't seem likely at this point — I've only ever truly been sexually attracted to men. Where on the scale do you think that puts me?

I have very occasionally been attracted to other women. I'm not sure if that's biology for me or if it's a reaction to how sexualized women are in our society (in advertising, etc.). But there it is.

I would go gay for Annie Lenox, but only her. I don't know if it counts if the woman looks like a man, though.

I don't really see the point of a scale like this, unless it exists to point out to people that sexuality is not the clear-cut issue people would like to think it is.

I am sometimes gobsmacked by the sight of a beautiful man, but I'm definitely straight; the aesthetic considerations of sleeping with other men strike me as revolting.

You know what I mean: the scent, the sweat, the blubber, the endless hair-I have as much revolting maleness as I can stand just being a guy, I can't imagine adding another dude to the mix! God bless you fellas and gals that can put up with it! You make the world a better place in which to live!
