My wife makes a mean Soto Ayam...
Soto Ayam, or: Indonesian Chicken Soup.

She can really do it up, too! There's some kind of alchemical broth she conjures up whose only ingredients I can identify are shredded chicken and lemongrass, then a side plate of optional user-supplied side items, such as bean sprouts, rice, fresh cilantro, lime and emping (funky, slightly bitter deep-fried crisps or crackers made from the melinjo nut); hot sauce (or sambal in Indonesian) to be applied very liberally (naturally!). Of course, not being content to leave well enough alone, I add a few sliced up hot peppers from the garden and we're off to a delicious, if somewhat Scoville-excessive repast.

Three cheers for the wife!

2. Healthy?!
After I get done adding heaps and heaps of peppers and hot sauce, its positively caustic!

But I mean that in the best 'so good it hurts' kinda way, of course.

;)

3. Hmmm
If it's spicy enough, I'll eat just about anything; even stuff from a garden and homemade bread which usually makes me want to :puke:

(My parents were back-to-nature organic gardeners so I've PTSD regarding all that crap they made us eat. They were religious social conservatives too) Yeah, I don't get it either.

4. Well, I say be forewarned...
My parents and grandparents were avid gardeners, and the things they used to foist on us unsuspecting, delicate-palate kids - okra, squash, eggplant, beans - it was truly a kids worst Summer Nightmare. Particularly when you knew your friends were staying up late, watching questionable TV shows, and lacing themselves absolutely silly with artificial flavorings and carbonation.

Fast forward a couple decades, and now I'M the Okra and Squash Foister (but since I don't have any children to torment, they should count their lucky stars, even though they aren't extant yet, but that's no reason for them to be ungrateful so soon, is it?).

So be careful, because those Garden Goodies and Homemade Breads will sneak up on ya like they did me.
