The feeling will pass. Memory is a wonderful thing.

Do you play an instrument? I wanted be a conductor WAAAAY back when. (I had a big crush on Leonard Bernstein.) But I simply didn't have enough aptitudes for it. Now I listen to classical music and frequent the Portland Symphony and go to the opera -- and ponder what might have happened had I been so musically gifted.

4. If you don't have a Google toolbar, here are the instructions.
Bring up http://www.google.com

Type in your screen name. You will have to put in spaces if necessary.

Instead of Google SEARCH, pull down the GOOGLE IMAGES selection.

Then ENTER (or GO).

Choose the best image and post here.

Have fun!

I'll do a few along the way. (If you own these screen names, please let me know.)

21. The Smith farm Underground Railroad Station,
located 1 mile south of Cutler in Decatur Township, Washington County, Ohio, on State Route 555, about 12 miles north of the Ohio River. James and Margaret Smith settled the property in 1834 and built a log cabin. In 1847, his son Joseph Smith built the house pictured here.

From 1834 through 1860 the Smith family operated the Underground Railroad Station called "Station No. 1" which assisted fugitive slaves from Virginia, that crossed the Ohio River twelve miles to the south at Sawyer-Curtis Station in Little Hocking.

During warm weather fugitive slaves were hidden in caves on the back part of the Smith farm. During cold weather, for warmth, fugitives slaves were hidden beside the chimney in the attic of the house.

He is the Aztec symbol of Resurrection
Thus merging my Mexica and Christian roots.

In Aztec mythology, Xipe Totec ("our lord the flayed one") was a life-death-rebirth deity, god of agriculture, the west, disease, spring, goldsmiths and the seasons. He flayed himself to give food to humanity, symbolic of the maize seed losing the outer layer of the seed before germination. Without his skin, he was depicted as a golden god.

I'm the spokesperson for the Latham Foundation, and have been since 1927.

Our tenets are pretty simple:

To foster a deeper understanding of and sympathy with man's relations -- the animals -- who cannot speak for themselves,

To inculcate the higher principles of humaneness upon which the unity and happiness of the world depend,

To emphasize the spiritual fundamentals that lead to world friendship

To promote the child's character through an understanding of universal kinship.

(if you see my brother, tell him he's always welcome at our home with open arms)

DGA (Director's Guild of America) Annual Report on Women and Minority Hiring Reveals Bleak Industry Record for 1999
Directors Guild President Jack Shea today (Dec 13) released the Guild's annual report on women and minority hiring, commenting that "the report reveals that industry employers have consistently failed to hire women and minorities in numbers that demonstrate any true commitment to the encouragement of diversity in the directorial team."

The new report tracks the number of total days worked by DGA women and minorities as a percentage of the number of total days worked by all DGA members in 1999. Those numbers are compared to each preceding year since 1986. In addition, the report tracks women and minority membership statistics.

"The employers have repeatedly promised to do everything they can to provide more opportunities for women and minorities to establish their careers as members of the directorial team," noted Shea. "This report clearly shows they are not actively pursuing the fulfillment of that promise.

"The Guild itself has no barrier to membership," said Shea. "Until the industry begins to hire women and minorities in greater numbers — thereby increasing their share of the employment pool _ the diversity of the directorial team will continue to languish."

The percentage of minority members entering the DGA each year has remained stagnant at an average of 12.6% for the past 5 years, a figure less than half of the 28.6% minority share of the American population calculated by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Census Bureau figure for women as a percentage of the U.S. population is 51.1%, while in 1999 the percentage of women members entering the DGA was only 26.6%. This represents the lowest percentage of women members entering the DGA since 1995, and the second consecutive year of a decline.

On the other hand, nobody calls Miss Marmelstein "bubbele"—or even "passion pie"! Barbra Streisand in her Broadway debut as the much-maligned secretary in 1962's 'I Can Get It For Your Wholesale'.

The program was on PBS's "Great Performances" recorded at the Philadelphia Museum.

Barbra's quite a talent in my humble opinion.

146. St. Edwin? Never heard of him -- until now! Where's Northumbria?
St. Edwin,
King of Northumbria
(AD 584-AD 633)
Edwin was a prince of the Deiran Royal family from Yorkshire, the eldest son of King Aelle. After his father's death in AD 588, the kingdom was annexed by the armies of King Aethelfrith from adjoining Bernicia, Edwin was forced to flee and he "wandered secretly as a fugitive through many places and kingdoms". He was still a boy when tradition has him initially seeking sanctuary at the court of King Iago of Gwynedd. Here he must have grown up alongside the King's sons (an impossible legend says grandsons) and became a particular rival of his foster-nephew, Prince Cadwallon. He may also have spent some time at the Mercian Court. These people were the natural allies of the Northern Welsh and it seems to have been around this time that Edwin married Princess Cwenburga, daughter of King Ceorl of Mercia. They soon had two children, Osfrith and Edfrith. With Aethelfirth now secure in the North, in AD 613, he decided to try and root out Edwin from Wales. The two forces clashed at the Battles of Chester and Bangor-on-Dee. King Iago of Gwynedd and a number of other British monarchs were killed in the fighting and Edwin felt it best to move his family to the court of the Saxon Bretwalda, King Redwald of East Anglia, in order to protect Cadfan, the new King of Gwynedd, from further attacks. Aethelfrith sent envoys to Redwald with bribes and threats and the mighty monarch was sorely tempted to give Edwin up to his enemies. However, the Queen persuaded Redwald that this would be shameful in the extreme. So, instead, in AD 616, the two raised an army and marched North to engage the Bernicians on the banks of the River Idle. The Northern army was thoroughly defeated and its King killed.

Ptah, God of Craftsmen, Rebirth and Creation

Ptah (Pteh, Peteh) was the predynastic Mennefer (Hikuptah, Memphis)
god of craftsmen, pottery and creation. The Egyptians believed that he
was a god who created everything from artifacts to the world egg to
the other deities themselves. The Opening of the Mouth ceremony
was believed to have been devised by him. He was a god of creation and rebirth.

Ptah was usually depicted as a bearded mummiform man, wearing a
close fitting skull cap. Only his hands come out of his shroud, and he
was usually shown holding a staff that incorporated the djed pillar,
the ankh symbol and the was scepter.

The origin of Ptah's name is unclear, though some believe it to
mean 'opener' or 'sculptor'. As a god of craftsmen, the later is
probably correct. He was a patron of the arts, protector of stonecutters,
sculptors, blacksmiths, architects, boat builders, artists and craftsmen.
His high priest was given the title wr khrp hmw, 'Great Leader of Craftsmen',
and his priests were probably linked to the different crafts.

163. well, i think it's similar, but there should be some 'browse & upload'...
template over there, like when you maybe apply for a job somewhere and they ask you to attach your resume, except you click the pic and zoom...away it goes into the bucket, i think that's how it works.

but yup, they need to go into that bucket, then you'll get a link (don't know what that might look like some www.photo bucket.com/file/pic.jpg looking link or some such) to where they are that you can put into the 'post environ' here @ du

and the pic shows up = love it :loveya:

196. easy enough...
when you see a picture on a web page you want, right click on it and choose "save picture as". your document folder will pop up, select the folder to put it in (I created a special folder called 'web pics') and hit save.

Then you have to open your photobucket page
click on the 'browse' button, this will open your document file again.
click on the picture you want to upload, it will copy to the photobucket page. Then hit the 'submit' button.

PM me if you get stuck. :)

203. SOMETHING VERY STRANGE HAPPENED:
I did this, and my very own image from a cached old DU Gallery showed up:

(this is the image, but it's broken on the cached page)

But I clicked on the URL for "See full-size image" and what I got was this web page. :wtf:

http://www.ipodnanos4free.com/default.aspx?r=657495

The actual URL next to the thumbnail image is this:

s2.imagesubmit.com/bertha.jpg

but it resolves to that free ipod shit.

:wtf: what the bloody . . . I don't get it. Is this due to DU using Google ads?
