Please HELP: If you have an iPod or ANY MP3player
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 09:53 PM by aQuArius
What's wrong with me???

The "ear-pods" that came with mine always fall out of my ears!! Any recommendations for new headphones or ear-phones are welcome. Are my ears too big???

1. I can't use those ear-pods.
My ears are shaped funny or something. I have to use headphones that cover my ears.

4. Power to us, dammit!
One day the normal-ear bourgeoisie will beg for mercy under our crushing boot! :grr: :D

I just can't get the things to fit. If I push 'em in real hard, they'll stay, but only because I've forced them part way into my ear canal...and that's bad! :scared:

3. The ipod earbuds hurt my ears badly. Ears aren't perfectly round.
The sound was awful too. I got a sony pair for about $20 that I'm very happy with both in terms of comfort and sound quality.

6. Sony and Shure both make really nice earbuds.
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 10:03 PM by primate1
I have the Sony MDR-EX51 Fontopia earbuds and they're great. Only problem is the wire casing can be kind of shitty (I had to bring a pair back because of it, but the pair I have now seems fine). The Shure E2 earbudss are a little more expensive, but also come very highly recommended.

The comfort and sound quality are well worth the money, in my opinion.

14. and how much did they cost you?
and what do you mean by "I had to bring a pair back"?? Does that mean the first pair you bought wasn't right and you exchanged them for the same? Sorry, I'm a little slow tonight and I really do want to invest in a GOOD pair for the best sound quality. Right now I'm using the "cheapy" headphones I got from an airline for a movie. Thanks!!! :bounce:

20. They were $70 Canadian.
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 11:25 PM by primate1
I brought them back and exchanged them for the same kind because the wire casing was fucked up. (It peeled away after two months of normal use, so the Sony Store where I purchased them just gave me a new pair.)

The sound quality in the Sonys is excellent. I would assume the Shures are just as good if not better (I've heard people say better, and I would have actually purchased those had I been able to find them in my area.) Either pair would be well worth the money.

7. I think my ears are too small for them.
They just hurt.

I have Maxell-brand earphones that slip around my ears; they're much better.

9. The reason they hurt is bacause they try to make your ear conform to them
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 10:14 PM by primate1
Since they're hard plastic, so they push on your ear to stay in, which is uncomfortable no mmatter how big your ears are. That's why non-earbuds (or good earbuds like the ones I mentioned above) are much more comfortable: they either have other means of staying on your ear, or they actually conform to your ear (which is how the ones I posted work).

11. Cool! Thank you!
No one in school ever teased me about having big ears, so I'm glad I don't have unusually big ears. Thanks!

8. The only ones that are comfortable for me
are the ones that came with my Rio Volt that I got years ago.

I had an idea that one day I will pursue, to remove all the plastic crap around the earbud (of one I have that doesn't fit me well) and get it down to the smallest piece I can, and then glue it into one of those squishy ear plug things, just to see if that's more comfortable.

10. I looked around online at iPod reviews and articles,

...and found that those "standard" earbuds pretty much don't fit anyone. I substituted an old lightweight headband pair from a Walkman, and it works just fine.

12. I hate the ear pods. I bought headphones. However...
have you tried switching ears? For some reason, on me they seem to work better in specific ears.

18. Had that same problem...went to RADIO SHACK
Radio shack has those ear phones that wrap behind your ear before sticking them inside. Best deal and they are cheap. Not white, but oh welll, fashion isn't everything.

19. There is a kind made by Phillips that are adjustable
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 11:20 PM by alarimer
They come with different sized inserts you put over the ear buds to fit your ears. I have the same problem (except my ears seem to be too small for most ear bud phones) but those worked well. I also bought a pair by Koss that have foam that deforms to fit your ear like earplugs do.

21. iPod earbuds suck donkeys
I picked up a pair of cheap Koss in-ear phones at Best Buy that have spongy pads that form-fit to your ears. IIRC they were around $20 and sound as good as the iPod earbuds.

22. Shure E2C sound isolating earphones are great.
I have a pair becasue the apple buds don't fit my ears either. These have small, squishy foam surrounds that you go into the ear canal and then seal themselves. Plus they sound much better as well.

They're a tad spendy though.

23. dump the ear buds for headphones
Ear buds are dangerous:

http://www.tdc.govt.nz/index.php?Whyearbudsaredangeroustoapersonsears-andsomesolutions

“We’re seeing the kind of hearing loss in younger people typically found in aging adults. Unfortunately, the earbuds preferred by music listeners are even more likely to cause hearing loss than the muff-type earphones that were associated with the older devices,” Garstecki said.

Not only are earbuds placed directly into the ear, they can boost the sound signal by as much as six to nine decibels.

“That’s the difference in intensity between the sound made by a vacuum cleaner and the sound of a motorcycle engine,” said Garstecki, professor and chair in the Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

In addition to the more intense sound signal, today’s music listening devices — with their longer battery life and their capacity to hold and conveniently play lots of music — also encourage users to listen for longer periods of time than did the older portable devices. That, too, increases the potential for hearing damage, according to Garstecki.

More at link above.

24. Get headphones with the padded earcups
They are comfortable, while shielding you a bit more from damage.

Here's an example:
