Grateful Dead keyboard player Vince Welnick dies

Vince Welnick, 55, who played keyboards with the Grateful Dead for five years before the death of band founder Jerry Garcia, died Friday.

Sonoma County sheriffs said he was taken, injured, from his home in rural Forestville near Santa Rosa, to a local hospital.

He died there, police said.

An unofficial spokesman at the Welnick home said, ``It looks like he took his own life.'' But that is not known for sure, he said. ``The family is very grieved, and trying to figure it all out.''

2. Only a week or two after he met to discuss a Tubes reunion, too...
Damn. Vince never got the respect he deserved from Dead fans. I've always loved his work with The Tubes and Todd Rundgren.

4. Does this mean that Bruce Hornsby is going to get real sick
but not die?

8. Nah.. Bruce is straight laced. Vince on the other hand
had episodes. I watched him get carried out of a RatDog show on a stretcher. Santa Cruz 97' I think. RIP Vince.

10. I heard this last night and thought it was kinda weird
Since he died of a drug overdose in a movie some years ago.

Anyone heard a statement from Fee?

Safe passage, man.

11. I'm a huge Tubes fan...
and saw him many times cruising around the City here in a big ol' 60's convertible.

I'm sorry to see it's ended this way for him. :(

12. I'm still depressed about this...
:( I loaded my iPod with all of my Tubes albums yesterday (and I have ALL of them, except for the new live one). I had to stop listening two songs into "Love Bomb" (after completing Completion Backward Principle and Outside Inside). I switched to the podcast of "Le Show" instead.
