And as far as I am concerned, even 16 is too young.

I was at my daughter's dress rehearsal for her dance recital earlier this week. We were all getting the girls in their costumes, and one of the girls (about age 4 or 5) was wearing a thong!

:wow:

1. Frankly, I don't know why ANYONE would want to wear thong undies
Why would you pay money to give yourself a wedgie!

I used to feel the same way though, then I bought a pair. It's more like not wearing underwear than it is a wedgie.

But for myself I hated it. Hated. It. It was annoying and after two days' wear, I still wasn't used to it. It does help with VPL, but if I need to worry about that, I'll go commando.

in edit: But to speak to KW's point, I don't see anything wrong with anyone of any age wearng thong underwear. I don't understand why it's linked with sexual activity.

Especially in a dance situation, that's more about VPL than anything else in my opinion.

17. Panty line is a far, FAR worse crime -- worse yet BIG GIRL PANTIES
than a thong. Panty line is a major, MAJOR fashion crime in my book.

Thongs are totally acceptable... I've bought them for my daughter for years.

I really don't get what the problem is. She's not showing them to anyone, they don't hang up over the top of her trousers and jeans, she's NOT allowed to wear the super low cut jeans, oh HELL no. It's just about comfort and style.

She doesn't dress hoochie at all. No short skirts, no heels, no tube tops, tanks usually have a shirt tossed over, etc.

Panties are just too much fabric. Those girl parts need to BREATHE!!!!!

YAY for thongs!

20. Seriously - I don't get the thong - what's wrong with them, that is.
What is so sexy about them if you can't see them?

My daughter wore thongs starting when she was 14, she's 16 now and switched back to bikinis. Nothing bad happened to her, no one thought she was a slut, if they did - that's their problem.

30. Guys love panty lines, women hate them, it seems
As a guy, I've always liked panty lines on a woman's butt... and I know a lot of guys who feel the same way.

However, I know that a lot of women seem to hate having panty lines.

And, if you can see panty lines on a pair of women's pants, you can also see a thong a lot of the time as well...

32. I never wore a thong to work after getting a harassing comment
At my current job, we have uniforms. The pants are thinner than jeans, which I usually wear in day to day life. I rarely wear thong underwear anyway, having only two pairs. I hadn't done laundry for a while though and only had really bright colored underwear aside from the thongs, which I was afraid would show through the white uniform pants. I wore thong underwear, which I did not have visible outside my pants at all.
The next day, one of the guys told me that he had really been turned on by my sexy thong underwear that I had worn the previous day and that all the guys were talking about me wearing them.
I suppose that I should of reported the incident right away but I didn't. That guy no longer works for the company and I will no longer work there either in two weeks.

33. What you notice...
What I notice on thongs is you can see the part that goes around the waist/hips (drawing a blank on what it's called, but like the top part in a capital T) But, when you realize that there are no associated panty lines, a man's eyes then focus a bit closer just to make sure if they see a panty line or not... and you can often see the part where the thong gets thinner.

21. For a dance recital, it's okay--the panty lines are NOT good LOL.
My kid's getting ready for her dance recital and they told us to let them go commando (for girls, LOL?) so no one sees Spongebob/Strawberry Shortcake/Wonder Woman undies.

Thongs for children are inappropriate, but they do have a purpose every now and then.

24. As one who knows basically nothing about knickers
being a gay man and all....

Is there a necessary connection between thongs and sexuality? Some women seem to find thongs simply more comfortable, and when added to the whole V.P.L. issue...it would appear that they may sometimes make sense without any sexual reference.

I'm incredibly frustrated by the tendancy to dress young children in outfits which are quite frankly mini-whore - I strongly agree that they shouldn't be wearing sexual clothes, but I'm just not certain (from a perspective of ignorance) that thongs are sexual.

on people with normal bodies. but they cause no lines, can be very comfy, so whatever, no big deal.. as long as no one sees them.

so you didn't actually answer my question as to why a thong is inherently bad. the only thing you've ascribed to thong wearers is that they want to attract men. and then said they were bad. see how someone could make that connection?

Unless it is on a small freaking child. Just because *you* wear thongs for comfort does not change the fact they they are inherently sexual. They don't need to be put on kids barely out of diapers.

As for adult, I couldn't care less what they wear.

57. I don't see thongs as inherently sexual.
I don't find them sexual unless that's all the woman is wearing and we're about to have sex. Let's face it, at that point, I'm going to be seeing any type of underwear as sexual.

For the rest of the time, I just see them as comfortable everyday underwear. I wear thongs and tiny boyshorts because that's what I find comfortable. It's not a sexual thing.

I don't see a problem with a child wearing a thong for a dance recital. It's a panty line thing.

Basically, I can definitely see where Betty Ellen is coming from.

OMG! a 4 or 5 year old wearing thong underwear!!!! What the Hell??? But, then after reading some other posts pointing out that it was at a dance recital.... I flashed back to the age of 7 and in gymnastics.... I remembered how horribly embarrassed I was when my underwear didn't seem to stay tucked into my leotard... So, I would reserve judgment - the mom could've just been making sure the little girl didn't have her panties showing and embarrassing her in her dance outfit.

56. Speak of the devil's panties!
We are having this issue "rear" it's ugly t-shaped head around here right now!

My 10 year-old has wanted to wear thong underwear ever since she started hanging
around with her current best friend (about 2 years). I have to mention that my
10 year-old skipped a grade and is actually in Junior High and all of her friends
are 12 (or about to turn 12).

I have said no for 2 years. She has LUSTED after those underpants for 2 years.
It is difficult to dissuade her, because aside from her friend, her Aunts (all
THREE of them)wear thongs on a regular basis. There went my "only strippers wear
them" argument!

Last night, she whispered to me that she was wearing a thong (from her friend).
They were a home-made pair, she just cut most of the underwear away. We talked
about her "need" for thongs and frankly, I just didn't want to make any more
waves over UNDERWEAR!

I personally find the "butt floss" disgusting, and finally told her that I will
not wash them, nor will I buy them for her.

She washed the kitchen floor today, and cleaned the bathroom last night, then she
went across the street to my mother's and washed her kitchen floor.

She went shopping with her friend and her friend's mother today and JUST came back with
a Victoria's Secret bag.

Oh well, at least she'll have to do the laundry once in a while......

62. jeez...
i didn't know she CUT them to be a thong. This is pretty sad on her part. But wait a sec.... you're okay with the dork wearing them?!?! If it was ME at 10 wearing thongs I would be dead. This seems somehow unfair, based on principle.

59. I completely agree with you, KitchenWitch...
I've got a thirteen-year-old daughter who wants them...and is furious because I won't buy them for her (although she IS 13, so she's usually angry with me about something anyway). At her age, she doesn't need to worry about panty lines or stylish lingerie since she's still in the age-group where "no one but you should know what color (or style) panties you're wearing" applies.

I've heard and kind of understand the whole panty-line thing, but why else would ANYONE need to wear thong underwear?

66. I think every adult woman in America under 29 years old wears thongs
No wonder that kids are starting to do it too.
