Wife Cuts Off Husbands Penis (Found Text Messages From Other Woman)
<snip>

MANILA (Reuters) - An irate Filipino housewife sliced off her husband's penis while he slept after she discovered text messages from another woman on his mobile phone.

A local radio station reported the woman rushed her husband to hospital in Manila Thursday when large amounts of blood flowed from his wound, but that she forgot to bring the severed piece of flesh.

Doctors were able to restore his manhood after she raced home to collect the missing piece. The man, a welder, told the radio station he had forgiven his wife.

3. do stories like these affect mens' behavior?
as in, make 'em think twice about cheating... or getting caught? Not to sound overly anti-man...

5. probably helps justify violence against women
Not good no matter how you look at it. Any women who tries to keep her man from cheating by threatening violence has problems, don't you think?

32. Yes, but compare that story
to every hundred-thousand cases of abusive men killing and severely injuring their wives and girlfriends for the same (usually imagined) reason.

No comparison.

11. Why would he forgive her?
Fair enough, he's a cheat (or so we assume - the article doesn't state), but she completely over-reacted. What if it had been a guy who'd cut up his wife. What would we think then?

17. Is it just me, or...
do you feel a greater sense of wanting vengeance when an man does similar to his wife, than when the wife does it to her husband?

I find male violence against women far more disturbing than female violence against men, and I don't think it's just "White Man's Guilt".

21. That's crap.
Men have to deal with abusive spouses as much if not more than women.

To say any violence is better or worse than any other is crap.

25. Prove it
Show me the data (that doesn't come from some right-wing anti-woman site) that shows men are abused by their spouses as often as women are.

I agree that violence is wrong no matter the gender of the person perppetrating it but to say that men are abused by their spouses as often as women are seems a bit disingenuous.

Plus TXlib wasn't saying it was ok for women to beat up their husbands.

30. Interesting reading but...
some of those sources don't exactly prove your claim. Especially the ones that go into how men are less likely to be injured when assualted by women or the ones that discuss the severity of the assault.

From your second source:
"Assaults by women were nowhere nearly as severe or as frequent as injuries inflicted by men.

While violent women were prone to slapping or throwing things at their husbands, abusive men would choke, beat, threaten with a gun or knife, or sexually assault their spouses far more often."

"When it comes to the damage done, about 15 per cent of women reported having to seek medical attention for their injuries, five times the number of men compelled to do so."

From your first source:
"Regardless of who started it, women appear to end up the losers in the struggle. A major U.S. study on the topic shows 3% of women suffer injuries in spousal violence, while only 0.4% of males were hurt badly enough to seek medical care."

31. But to say they don't happen or aren't as bad is a daft claim
Maybe I'm biased, I grew up in the 70s and the 80s, and have seen male-bashing evolve into a sport.

I'm not going to be made to feel bad simply because I am male and according to the uber-feminists, all men are "potential rapists and woman beaters".

36. Funny, I grew up in the 70s and 80s...
and have seen feminist-bashing evolve into a sport too. :-)

Don't get me wrong - I think violence is pretty much always wrong no matter who is doing it to who. This all stems from Txlib's post and I still don't think he was saying it was ok for women to beat their spouses.

No one has really addressed his question about whether he was the only one who found violence against women "more disturbing". I tried to address it and didn't do a very good job. I think it stems from the fact that on average women are smaller than men and it's more disturbing to see someone beat up on someone smaller than they are, but that's just my opinion of what's going on in Txlib's head.

My abuser's specialty was Psy-war, not beatings. Leaves the scars that you don't see that never heal.
Got no stats, just anectdotal personal experience.

26. I'm surprised
this doesn't happen more often.

And it's interesting when it does. How many penises are severed in a year? It's big news when it does.

But women are beaten, raped, and undergoing genital mutilation every single day. No outrage.

34. No outrage?
No outrage?

What planet do you live on?

Ever hear of the Violence Against Women Act? If that's not unconstitutional, what is? But it's an actual law that passed quite recently.

Boys are genitally mutilated in this country every day, but it's no big deal, because it's "not as bad" as the mutilation done to women.

No outrage.

How about we stop the divisiveness, and try to stop violence against everybody? Or would that be too much to ask?
