Poll question: What is worse/which do you prefer.
An insincere apology or promise, or nothing at all?

If someone claims to want to live and let live, move on, or that they feel sorry for what they've done, when in fact they don't, would you want to hear that? Knowing they were going to shortly renege and continue the behaviour?

Or, would you prefer an honest silence? Never hearing 'I'm sorry' or 'Lets just stop fighting', and just going on about your business.

Me, I'd rather an honest silence than a lie. But, I do know people who'd rather have the satisfaction of hearing "I'm sorry" or "Lets just try to get past this", even when it is false. (My mother, for one)

1. I always prefer honesty above all else.
Yes, even if that honesty is silence.

3. I'll give one time for an apology. If proven insincere, they're gone.
Assuming they're human enough to make it, insincere or otherwise.

7. I don't mind getting apologies
I just don't understand the people who make them without any feeling behind them, or people who claim to want to move on but know they won't. And I don't get how, even if the words are empty, some people do take comfort in them.

12. I don't mind them being silent...
but when they turn around and be really vicious behind your back, about you, it gets easy to start treating them like the animals they clearly are.

So maybe it's best just to stay away from the filth.

I dunno. I used to think that people who talked with each other would end up agreeing to disagree. Others just can't let go. A fake apology and an ending is much better than silence with the big chance of getting tawdry slander from the truly weak.

15. Isn't it worse
if they aren't silent, but then go and are vicious?

13. Forgive?
Never forgive,
but pretend to forgive.
Say amiably that you forgive.
Convince that you have forgiven.
Thus, devastating is the effect
When at last you lunge
And reach for the throat.

16. Sometimes, people mean to be sincere but have a hard time changing
There are things that I am sincerely sorry for, but that doesn't mean that I won't do them again.
There are times that I wish to truly forgive, but find myself unable to let go of my feelings.
Because I am more forgiving of other people than myself, I accept apologies and forgiveness of people who really cannot do what they mean to do. Maybe someday I will accept that I am not perfect as much as I accept that others are not perfect.

If you're going to be a dick, at least be honest about it and don't pretend you're not one.

"Sometimes, I'm an asshole".

To which I just sat in stoney silence because, duh, yes he is.

23. Apologies are for lightweights.
REAL men and women suffer in silence, bottle their emotions, then let their feelings out in random bursts of irrational violence directed towards loved ones and other bystanders.

They're often a bigger insult than the original offense.
