1. Lots of good clues in that show . . .
. . . demonstrating the fascist takeover of America: Prohibition, fear, excessive force, erosion of liberty, freedom, and Constitutional guarantees.

Very educational.

2. I like that show...sometimes.
I hate how they use excessive force on the suspects, though.

16. That's nothing compared to when the cameras aren't rolling...
...and there's no witnesses around. Black people (mostly who it happens to) in this town get beaten to death by the cops just for asking why they were pulled over or for drinking a beer in public.

3. It's a fear-mongering piece of crap.
But that's just my opinion. Back to you, LIA. :hi:

18. Interesting
I've never viewed it that way at all. I've always viewed John Walsh as an amazing man that has taken tragedy and made it a worthy driving force in his life to help prevent it from happening to others. Doing so in a way that brought everyone (that viewed the show) together in a way to dispel fear. I find it interesting that two people can view one thing in the exact opposite way.

4. It's a pretty good show if you like the crime issue oversimplified
There's a reason that all the 'criminals' on that show come off as stupid and mean: those are the ones that get picked for the show. The overall effect is a might-makes-right mentality where the image of someone who is questioned by the police becomes automatically unworthy of respect, so it doesn't matter what happens to them. Since it doesn't matter what happens to them, it's OK for the police to do whatever they want.

12. What about Reno 911
I remember one scene where they (the cops) accidentally rear-end a car. The guy jumps out of his car and hauls ass. They look at each other and they're screaming out of the window that it was their fault and to come back. They approach his car and find a butt load of weed. They confiscate it and later all the colleagues decide that the only way to get rid of it is to burn it at a bonfire which they all attend that night. They're all singing around the bonfire and are all high as anything without even having a clue. I thought it was funny. Or not? :)

13. we call it "Social workers with guns" at my house
I guess the episodes that I've seen portray the cops as pretty patient and compassionate to the mostly sad. problem-laden folks whom they have to arrest.

I've never felt that the cops were "fascistic" in the ones I'e seen.

14. Sadly, its actually one of the few programs that actually
shows those problem-laden folks. Those who watch it as pure entertainment probably don't think about how the "featured performers" became indigent, but who knows. Maybe their consciousness of the inequality will be raised just a little.

17. a recent one about young Latino kids who break into
stores to steal spray paint and sniff it, was heartbreaking....

note, it would be heartbreaking regarding any kid.

15. One of my friends was on that show. No, he's not a cop.
He had just gotten out of the Marines, and was too drunk to drive, so he decided to jog home at 3:00 am. He was about 5 miles from his place when the cop saw him and asked him why he was running down the street drunk in the middle of the night. He didn't end up getting arrested or anything, but it was still pretty damned funny.
