Best modern cartoon show outside of the Simpsons
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 11:42 AM by Michael Daniels
Had to qualify in order to guarantee a wider range of responses.

I go with King of the Hill.

Admittedly, I see it more as a live action show that's animated given the realism given to the character design but that aside I just find the writing to be warm and human and the characters so well defined that it ranks only behind the Simpsons as far as quality and lasting potential.

Given that it avoids going for the cheap laughs of portraying a bunch of Republican leaning Texans as toothless hayseeds or red-necks for a more nuanced protrayal of life in that area of the country it earns points in my book as well for that alone.

1. Love it!
I also enjoy the Family Guy. Stewie rocks! Another dumb guy with intelligent wife scenario.

4. Duckman or Samarai Jack
For different reasons; the first because of the humor and the second because of the animation itself (along with an excellent story line).

Ok, it's out of production but it isn't that old.

The Maxx

Cowboy Bebop

Aeon Flux (silent series, anyway)

But if you're talking comedy, Family Guy and King of the Hill for sure.

11. Gotta say Futurama
I know a lot of Simpsons fans didn't like it, but it remains the only other animated series that made me laugh out loud.

Bender's my hero.

5. The WB Batman and Batman Beyond series
6. The WB Superman series
7. Futurama

17. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
The show was never really meant to be a kids show but kids and adults love the cartoon just the same!

I am so the sponge - an eternal geeky optimist who tries to keep smiling even when the proverbial crap is hitting the fan.

I love the Sponge!

29. Original "Ren and Stimpy"
One of my fav episodes was "My Shiny Blue Friend" (i think that was the title) about Stimpy watching too much tv. Funny. They were all so good, and what about that Log song?! I liked that show so much I got Ren and Stimpy hats for me and my mate and when we went up to Yosemite I put the hats on the rocks with the tunnel valley view below to take a photo. As usual the Ren hat got stolen later on and my Stimpy cap got used for a fishing trip by my mate and it blew off in the wind. Darn.

35. MTV's Spiderman!
Great CGI animation, dialogue you won't cringe at and fairly interesting storylines. Not quite as good as the original "Batman, the Animated Series", but close.

I sure wish someone would do a feature length version of "The Watchmen". That'd be the best toon ever.
