DISCLAIMER: I can't include everything, so if your choice isn't here, just choose other and post your style.

Overall, my favorite is classic rock. Has The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Simon & Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, CCR, and many more..

1. Certain types of classical.
Principally: renaissance, baroque, modern French organ school, mystic minimalists.

3. I go to sleep to classical music
But of course, I enjoy it at other times, too. I mainly have CDs from the oldies like Beetoven and Mozart.

5. Folk, followed by "alternative" rock and classic rock
Edited on Mon May-29-06 04:41 PM by AlienGirl
I like some of everything, though. Mostly, I like songs that have good poetry and tell a story or are about something other than love/heartbreak. It's extra-good if the song is about history (a la TMBG's "James K. Polk"), the cycles of life and death (Live's "Lightning Crashes"), or politics (anything Phil Ochs ever sang).

On edit: Or if it's about disasters, shipwrecks, or nuclear war. I actually have several playlists of nothing but songs about the end of the world. Yeah, I'm weird.

8. I'm really nostalgic for the 90s
And I've lived thru quite a few decades. But I loved Nirvana, Live, Everclear, Pearl Jam, et al. I also loved the hope I felt in the 90s for my country.

In fact, I always wanna party like it's 1999!!

Yes, country's one of the variety of styles I enjoy. I even like some of Nashville's country pop (Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, earlier Reba, Sugarland, some Faith Hill, Tim McGraw included.)

On edit: I consider these great artists to be more alt/country - Dixie Chicks, The Wreckers, Neko Case, Miranda Lambert, Steve Earle..

Edited on Mon May-29-06 05:02 PM by Derailer
if it said "90/00s minus Korn" personally

EDIT: are the google ads now targeting individuals specifically? Because I doubt anybody else sees an ad for Rise Against's "The Sufferer and the Witness"

15. It's a tie for me between jazz and classic rock.
I voted "classic rock" here, since I know slightly more about that than about jazz--but I'm working to even the score! :)

Truly, I love music in general.

16. I chose "Other", because my tastes are
New Wave (yeah, you never could have guessed that! :P ), punk, postpunk, and 80s alternative. I like a lot of classic rock too---Pink Floyd and The Beatles are my favorites in that genre.

My CD collection has only those types of music in it. :D

31. Wikipedia has a pretty good summary of it...
Edited on Tue May-30-06 05:18 AM by primate1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_music

Devo and New Order would be pretty good examples, I guess. (Or my favourites, at least.)

And there's also the Claude Bessy definition, which is pretty amusing:

"There is no such thing as new wave. it doesn't exist. It's the figment of some lame cunt's imagination. There was never any such thing as new wave. It was the polite thing to say when you were trying to explain you were not into the boring old rock and roll but you didn't dare to say punk because you were afraid to get kicked out of fucking the party and they wouldn't give you coke anymore. There is new music, there is new underground sound, there is noise, there is powere pop, there is ska, there is rockabilly...but new wave doesn't mean shit."

33. Wiki does have a good definition and summary of New Wave
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New%5FWave%5Fmusic

That's a very good overview. New Wave bands I can name off the top of my head are Devo, Adam and the Ants, B-52s, BowWowWow, English Beat, Thompson Twins, The Go-Gos, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Human Sexual Response, Psychedelic Furs (although they are considered postpunk, which overlaps with New Wave), Blondie, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Erasure, The Cure, and a ton of others. :)

18. Broadway Musicals!!
I am a broadway musical buff!! I like operettas, classics, more recent, new and even musicals that have never seen the lights of broadway. Secondly, I am a huge fan of the Beatles and Aerosmith which would put Classic Rock as my 2nd fav! :bounce:
