Who's your favorite author? What is the latest book you've
Edited on Sat May-27-06 03:16 AM by Blue_Roses
read from your favorite author?

Okay, I know for readers this is a broad question, since I like so many, but lately I have been a Robert Ludlum fan, reading, "The Hades Factor," and I also like John Grisham's novels. His latest read for me was, "The Summons," and even though it's not his favorite for me, I like his writing style.

Who's your favorite?

1. Gore Vidal. And I've read 'em all...
...interestingly, his second book of memoirs is to come out soon, or so he recently said on CSPAN.

2. Stephen Leacock

Ever since 1973, when I was in Grade 9 and first read Nonsense Novels. I haven't read any Leacock in a while, because I've kind of committed it to memory. But I'm still more fond of short fiction than longer forms, and that's partly because of Leacock. I keep meaning to go to the Leacock museum in his house in Orillia, about an hour or so north of Toronto, but I don't have a car, and I don't feel like staying overnight.

My favourite novel, though, is Turvey, a darkly comic picaresque work by Earle Birney, who is better known as one of Canada's pre-eminent poets. Again, I discovered this author in high-school, and I was plenty happy to go to a poetry reading by him in the late 80s, where he signed my dog-eared paperback. He admired the well-thumbedness of my copy and smiled.

I'm surprised, given your handle, that your favourite author isn't Tennessee Williams!

3. Stephen King and Dean Koontz
I have King's latest book "The Cell." Haven't started to read it yet, but I read an excerpt and it looks like it is going to be another excellent King novel.
