Robertson Says He Leg-Pressed 2,000 Pounds

<snip>
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says he has leg-pressed 2,000 pounds, but some say he'd be in a pretty tough spot if he tried.

</snip>

Well, it's Pat Robertson. See, prayer works, at least on TV.

2. Article says he did it in 2003. . .
Sheesh. Nothing to it. I know I leg-pressed well more than 2,000 pounds that year. Did a little more in 2004, it being a leap year and all.

5. Yeah, and I did it with 1 foot...
"Clay Travis of CBS SportsLine.com called the 2,000-pound assertion impossible in a column this week, writing that the leg-press record for football players at Florida State University is 665 pounds less.

"Where in the world did Robertson even find a machine that could hold 2,000 pounds at one time?" Travis asked."

I have been maxed out on all of my gym's lower body equipment for years. I have been looking for all over town for a more substantial gym. I would love to know where he works out.

43. They make them to 1800 pounds
But he wasn't using one of those by any stretch, not enough weights on them.

However, counting the weights involved, most look like 45-50 pound weights and only include about 5 on a side which means he's really lifting about 500 pounds there, not that impressive.

This falls well within the lines of what Fortune magazine reported back in 2002 just a single year before the "miracle" lift.

http://www.rickross.com/reference/cbn/cbn3.html

It's two hours before airtime for the 700 Club, one of the longest-running TV shows in history, and Robertson is exactly where he likes to be: flat on his back, with 700 pounds resting above his head. He is a fanatic for leg presses. The CBN Website, hyping an "age defying" protein shake invented by Robertson, asks breathlessly, "Did you know that Pat Robertson can leg-press 600 pounds!" The executive in charge of Robertson's investments says it's really more like 1,000 pounds.

What I'm sure happened, and which seems to be bore out later, is that someone thinks adding all the weight lifted in a rep series counts somehow. If that's true, when I was in fairly good shape, I used to do reps of 30-40 of 800 pounds which means by Pat Robertson standards I lifted 32,000 pounds! (Strong legs, couldn't run worth anything).

"One of the photos Vasko released had a digital date stamp of 1994, although she said Robertson performed the leg press in 2003. Vasko said that perhaps the date was not set properly on the camera.

The CBN Web site attributes Robertson's energy in part to "his age-defying protein shake." The site offers a recipe for the shake, which contains ingredients such as soy protein isolate, whey protein isolate, flaxseed oil and apple cider vinegar."

.. no thanks, I don't drink shakes.

It seems like we get one of these Pat Roberston quotes every single month. And I'm sure some people visit his ridiculous money-grubbing website to see if he's going to post a clarification or apology. And some of the idiots give him money in the process.

Why does the media keep reporting this stuff? Did Bob Tilton make any grand pronouncements today?

"He's sooo healthy" like if you are real healthy lifting 2000 lbs should be a breeze. I consider myself 'healthy' and I would probably have trouble loading the 2000 lbs onto a leglift machine much less actually lifting it all :wow:

Well, hemorrhaged anyway.

Perfect attack ad set-up here for the dems, wonder if they will use it? He was also tied to Liberia's Charles Taylor who laundered money for Al Quida. Another thing that got no attention since the media won't show the down and dirty stuff on republicans.
