2. Satchel Paige is mella,
so is Campanella,
Newcombe and Doby, too.
But it's a natural fact,
when Jackie comes to bat,
the other team is through.

3. Katie Casey was base ball mad . . .
Edited on Thu May-25-06 11:50 AM by Brigid
Had the fever and had it bad;
Just to root for the home town crew,
Ev'ry sou Katie blew.
On a Saturday, her young beau
Called to see if she'd like to go,
To see a show but Miss Kate said,
"No, I'll tell you what you can do."

Now is there anybody on the planet who doesn't know the chorus to this one?

4. To the ball game take me out
With the crowd buy me some
Peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don't care
If I ever get back, for it's root, root, root
For the home team, if they don't
Win it's a shame, for it's one
Two, three strikes you're out at the old ball game
Take me out

:D

6. Peter Yarrow's
The looks we used to get when we sang it at games.

"I know that's... but how are they... whaaa...??"

I learned the preamble differently, though. Can't think of all of it right now, but it started...

Nelly Kelly loved base ball games
Knew all the players, knew all their names

7. Here you go:
There were two versions. I used the 1908 one; yours is from 1927. The chorus remained untouched, but here's the rest of the one you know:

Nelly Kelly love baseball games,
Knew the players, knew all their names,
You could see her there ev'ry day,
Shout "Hurray," when they'd play.
Her boy friend by the name of Joe
Said, "To Coney Isle, dear, let's go,"
Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
And to him I heard her shout.
