This is so NOT funny...I woke up this morning with a visible, hideous
varicose vein on my ankle! WTF, I just turned 40 last month; is this where it all starts going south?
I'm not ready to be OOOOOLD.....

1. Get thee to the dermatologist...
...My derm tells me that if you catch a varicose vein early, you can prevent others from appearing. He treated one for me with saline solution, and it worked wonders. :) No more so far, and that was three years ago.

Varicose veins suck at any age. :P

You're not old, sweetie! It happens to most of us.

2. I'll do that..they inject it, I presume? The most unsettling thing is,
it wasn't there last night! Makes me wonder...what will I wake up with tomorrow?

3. Yes, it's an injection.
It's not any more painful than a vaccination. The area in and around the vein will be tender for a day or so, but it's worth it. BTW, that's how mine showed up---overnight. Lots of people have a tendency toward weak veins, especially as they age, and in my case, it's hereditary. Thank goodness I don't have the varicose veins my mother did at this age, though. I'm fighting mine early enough!

4. Yes, my mom had terrible varicose veins, and at a much younger age, too.

I am so ashamed to admit that I gave her grief about them when I was a teenager. Greetings, Karma.

7. About 34.
Mine's hastened by disc degenerative disease; I might want a 2nd opinion for my neck; my neurologist said there's nothing he could do if the disc between C5 and 6 gone bad. (I wish I had spoken up 18 months ago, to have 4+5 and 5+6 removed at the same time... oops. I lack the stamina for another surgery, of that I feel certain.)
