attn: cat people
just curious. I feed my cats dry food (name brand only) daily. For a treat once in awhile (varies, from once a week to a few times a week) I let them (2 cats) split one can of canned food (small can, fancy feast etc). They seem to enjoy it. But I don't overdo it, as they are both healthy enough (can u say fluffy?) Anyway, is there something more healthy I could give them as a treat? (Any kind of people food?) I don't do this currently. Not sure what cats can or should have to eat.

On cat food, mine get Innova Evo dry and canned. As for treats, they think of the canned as a treat. Though I do give them chicken once in a while. I used to have a cat that loved green beans and would steal them off your fork.

Edited to add, there is a Pets group here http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=243

4. I'd give them wet food more than what you're doing
Wet or canned food is good for them, especially tom's a steady diet of krunchies will cause a crystal build up in their urinary tract leading to stones and blockage.
We feed our cat's can food daily, and leave a pan of krunchies out for them to eat as they want.
My old momma cat is spoiled rotten she gets table food, the others don't, but she's the queen of the house.

5. Dry food and the amount of carbs it contains
is one of the largest factors in the climbing rate of feline diabetes.

7. We splilt a small can of Science Diet
between our two every day. We usually give them fish
because cats need fish protein for their eyesight.
They seem healthy enough - they're both old and look
a far sight healthier than me.
