Well, I got fucked again. (Need opinions, etc.)
So I'm all happy right, because I got a new car.

I asked the car guy, when I was trading in my old car, what I needed to do about the title--it was in my mother's name. He said I just needed to have her sign the back and sign it myself, and that was it. I did that, forgot about it.

Just got a call from the guy, two weeks later now, saying I have to come get the title, take it to DMV, and transfer the title. Problem is, now I have to pay the DMV late fee (because it's more than 10 days after the sale) plus the regular title fee. AND, I'm going to get shit I think because I have to show proof of insurance--guess what, don't have that, because my mother and I signed the title, we drove it to the dealership, and got insurance for the new car. And, my mother took the old car off her insurance. So WTF do I do? I can't reinsure myself on a car I don't even have!

There's various other ways I'm getting screwed by just about everyone in the world, but that's the thing that just now sent me over the edge.

One of the many joys of using a bicycle for transportation is not having to deal with the DMV, except for every few years when I renew my drivers license.

2. I don't see how they can expect
you to have insurance on a car you don't have. I'm assuming that if they ask for proof of insurance, they'd want proof that it was insured at the time of sale.

Call the DMV and ask for sure before you panic. ;)

3. Not sure what state you are in
but here if you turned in your tags (or switched them over to the new car) and you are not driving the old one you don't need insurance and wouldn't be penalized. As far as your mom signing over the title, she (and whoever else was on the title) should of just signed it over to the dealership taking it as a trade in. At least that is how it works here. If they messed up they should pay the fees. Maybe you could look for you DMV website online and see what your state requires. The dealer could be wrong again. If you already have the new car and the financing what are they going to do? It was their mistake.

4. Nah, the car guy didn't do HIS end of the paperwork and now he's trying
to make you do it?

Oh hell no.

Tell him it's his car, he can figure it out. You've already done everything you need to do.

It's not up to you to transfer the title, it's up to him. All you needed to do was sign it over, and you did that.

Don't let the bastard fuck with you.

6. Thanks everyone....I'm just really agitated.
I'm sorry I'm not replying to each reply...but this thing, on top of everything else is just...sigh. You've all made me feel a bit better about it, I'd be calling DMV up right now but they're closed.

Sigh. I think I should have some pie.

7. I don't think you have to do this
Why should you pay to have a car transfered into his name??

It sounds like he messed around, wasted away the 10 days and now wants you to pay for his mistake. You pay to have a car transfered TO your name not OUT of your name.

Hope it all works out.
