i had to have my dog euthanised this morning
she was the best dog, a female rottwiler who had the personality of a lamb. she loved other dogs.she even liked cats! she never showed one ounce of aggressiveness in her life. just a wonderful friend.i rescued her when she was young from the spca. she grew into a GREAT dog and companion. she developed bone cancer a couple of months ago and in spite of everything the vets tried she just got worse. she was so sweet and special. anyone who has dogs, should have one like her at least once in their life. i saved her once, i only wish i could have saved her again.

3. I'm so sorry...
My 12 year old lab passed away just last weekend, and it's been extremely traumatic for the whole family. Thankfully, he passed at home and we didn't have to make that awful decision, but I felt like someone had ripped my heart right out.

Peace to you!

It stinks. A good pet is like a relative.

You did the right thing, though, tough as it may have been.

I know how awful it is. I now have a great Black lab that has taken over where my last friend left off. It took me a few years to get another dog and I am only sorry I didn't do it sooner.

14. Hurts, don't it?
I had to put my two German shepherds down in October. They were brothers, and we got them at 6 mos. old. They were 11 1/2 yrs old and had developed serios health problems. It was time. We went three months without a dog before we had to have another. Rescued a black lab from the shelter, and like your Rottie, he is a wonderful companion. Go ahead and get another dog. You won't regret it.

17. My condolences--it is so hard
I euthanised the family dog several years ago when his infirmities were beyond repair, and he was so trusting. I still wonder what I could have done otherwise. I am wary of taking on another dog. Somehow, cats aren't the same problem. They aren't so dependent and needy. If they love you, it's for yourself, not because they need you so badly that they'd love anybody.

22. So sad...my dog also has bone cancer
We had his leg amputated to try to extend his life about 6 months ago. He is doing ok for now, but I expect we will have to make that trip to the vet to say our last goodbyes within months.

I'm so sorry for your grief, but she sounds like a wonderful dog that you will always treasure the memories of. I will be thinking of you today and sending you my thoughts and prayers.

doesn't mean it hurts any less. I know exactly how you feel.

30. I posted this a short time ago, if you haven't seen it , here you go
A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years.

He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble.
At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like Mother of Pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.

He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there". The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump." They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates?
Nope. That's Hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they screen out the folks who'll leave their best friends behind."

31. You made life better for eachother
and you unselfishly helped her have a less painful end of her life.
When my dear Billie-girl died of old age /heart failure in my arms at a campsite, the next morning I wrote my thoughts and memories of her. I loved her, and now I have funny Sally to keep life more joyful.

Here is a website for Carl, of "Good,Dog, Carl" fame. I think anyone who knows Rottweillers would, or should know about these wonderful,ly illustrated, nearly wordless, children's books-

We had to have our male rottie euthanised 6 years ago. He had attison's disease, a heart problem and then his hips got really bad. My husband stayed with him the whole time. He was the best dog and with medication we got him to 6 years of age. He almost died when he was 2 before he was diagnosed. I still have dreams about him and we keep his picture up in the house. RIP Darwin. Here's hoping he was there to great her in whatever rottie doggie heaven there is...
