My cat is acting funny.
He's meowing a lot, for him, and his paw pads and nose are red. This just started this afternoon. He's still affectionate, and is eating and drinking, and doesn't seem overly distressed other than the meowing, which sounds just like his typical feed me meow. He's trotting from room to room and talking up a storm. He also occasionally shakes his paws like he's stepped in something wet and is trying to shake it off. We're taking him to the vet if he doesn't change, but of all the cats I've had over the years, I've never seen anything like this. I'm thinking maybe an allergic reaction of some kind. Anyone ever see anything like this? He is neutered and always indoors.

1. did you wash his paws?
Was he outside? Did you check the house to see if something might be spilled? I'd keep a good eye on him overnight.

Oh, and did you look inside his mouth for anything strange?

4. We're keeping an eye on him.
We'd been gone all day. Nothing was amiss when we got back. He's going to the vet tomorrow if there's no change. I didn't think to look in his mouth, I'll check.

2. It does sound like some type of reaction.

Have you brought anything new into the house recently?

3. Are his nose and pads red, or more of a purplish color?
Have you checked to see if his gums and/or tongue are affected as well?

A search at http://www.petplace.com using red paw pads brings this result:

5. Definitely not bluish or purplish.
His paw pads and nose are pink as he's mostly white. They're just a darker pinkish red now. His mouth looks fine. It's worrisome because he was very sick as a kitten and had to have an ultrasound of his heart among other tests. He's been healthy since then, but I worry about a recurrence of those problems.

8. Oh, thank you for posting it.
:hi: It was very helpful. I'll keep an eye out for any bluish color. I'd never heard of that before.
