Advice Needed on Gift Basket for Fire Fighters
We are very grateful to our neighborhorhood firefighters for their valiant efforts during the October Southern California fires. Would it be appropriate to put together a gift basket for the local fire house? Suggestions please about what to put in it? Know nothing about what fire fighters like to eat.

1. My uncle is a fire captain...
.....they generally work 24 hour shifts, which means eating, sleeping and showering at the station a good bit of the time.

The one gift from the community that my uncle talks about constantly is when some people gave them coupons for a free cleaning. They showed up with Clorox wipes and brooms and mops and straightened the place up.

If you're not interested in doing that, then I suggest homemade desserts (stuff they can't buy at a store), microwave popcorn (they live on the stuff), or gift certificates to the local pizza delivery shops (what they eat when they don't eat popcorn.)

2. I asked a cop friend of mine
who stops off at the fire station whenever she gets an excuse because some of the firefighters are fairly yummy (they do a calendar to raise money, even), says they will eat pretty much anything. They are very partial to sweets - cookies, candies, pies, etc. Gift certificates to any nearby restaurants and fast food places are also welcome, particularly coffee shops (and some of those establishments will donate them if you tell them what the gift certificate is for).
