2. It's kind of stupid actually...

when I was in HS, I was a sailor moon fan. Haruka is the name of the androgynous lesbian character. It was my old yahoo handle and so it became my DU name. Of course, because Americans are prudes, when those episodes hit American tv, Haruka's girlfriend became her cousin and poor dubbing ensued.

Ye gods, though, how many works of art have been ruined in an effort to make them "palatable" for American audiences?

Though I seem to recall reading somewhere that Mozart had to slap a happy ending onto his opera "Don Giovanni" before it debuted in England, so at least we aren't alone in our tastes, or haven't always been.

I remember him. I was totally shocked when if found that out. I gues Japanese are a helluva lot more tolerant of other people than Americans. They had characters like that a long time before Americans did.
