Best song by The Who
what is your fave? or faves?

I love stuff "I can't Explain" and "My Generation" and most of their earlier, Mod style and R and B stuff (ever hear their cover of Heat Wave? Moon's drumming on that is positively sick)but recently I can't stop listening to the song "Bargain", which is so catchy that it has been used in countless commercials

1. Man - so few to pick from

If you're holding a large caliber gun to my head, I'd say the 'Overture' from Tommy. :)

2. Amazing Journey
I Can See For Miles
Can You See the Real Me
Slip Kid
So Sad About Us
Substitute
Going Mobile
A Quick One While He's Away (live!)

And a few they didn't write: Young Man Blues, Eyesight to the Blind, Armenia City in the Sky...

And then all the obvious ones I'm trying not to headbang to as I type...

3. That's a tough one. I'll have to whittle it down to 'Quadrophenia'....
Which is, of course, the greatest album of all time and say....

"The Real Me", followed closely by "5:15".

9. Live at Leeds - Young Man Blues...
Oh well a young man ain't got nothin' in the world these days
I said a young man ain't got nothin' in the world these days

You know in the old days
When a young man was a strong man
All the people they'd step back
When a young man walked by

But you know nowadays
It's the old man,
He's got all the money
And a young man ain't got nothin' in the world these days
I said nothing

Everybody knows that a young man ain't got nothin'.
Everybody!
Everybody knows that a young man ain't got nothin'
He got nothin'
Nothin'

Take it easy on the young man
They ain't got nothin' in the world these days
I said they ain't got nothin'!
They got sweet fuck-all!

12. Boris the Spider.
The combination of the pure banality of the lyrics with a voice that can reach that far down - there's no contest. :D

22. This is a clever joke, right?
You know this was The Jam, right? (There was a picture of Keith Moon on the single, though, and Weller was certainly Who- and mod-obsessed in those days.)

18. The Kids are All RIght is my favorite early one
Can't Explain
Pictures of Lily

I like the Mod period stuff the best, too, Zuni.

and some later stuff - I'll have to think about that for a while. I actually prefer songs that Townsend sings.

24. One day it will be "A Quick One While He's Away" . . .
Edited on Thu May-04-06 05:52 PM by HughBeaumont
. . . next day, it'll be "I'm One" . . . day after it'll be "Behind Blue Eyes" . . . day after, it's "The Song is Over" . . . "Young Man's Blues" . . . "Water" . . . too many to name.

But overall . . . the one that touches me the most is "Love Reign O'er Me". I can sing that song word for word and it'll make me feel better no matter how shitty I feel.

29. I Can See For Miles
That was the ONE...with the Townshend windmill chords, the cryptic but razor-sharp lyrics ("The Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal are mine to see on clear days...You thought that I would need a crystal ball to see right through the haze...Well, here's a poke at you, You're gonna choke on it too, You're gonna lose that smile...Beacuse all the while, I can see for miles and miles"), the guitar solo that fed off of Keith Moon's crazed drumming...

I own every note The Who played, but that one song...that was the ONE.
