15. I just want to live in an era when Americans don't worship stupidity
celebrate mediocrity, and fear the unknown.

I want to live in an era where Americans know how to read at more than a fourth grade level, so that I could pick up any newspaper and not have to squirm at the ignorance of it; could listen to any newscast and not feel like a goddamned child and hear actual reasoned, intelligent debate; and when we have a president who is highly intelligent and worldly cultured, and people see that as not only an asset, but a requirement.

I want to live in an era where Americans celebrate the arts of all types, have a high level of artistic sophistication, and are willing to pay money so that we, as a nation, can be bathed in beauty and glorious celebrations of humanity and the awe-fullness of creation.

I want to live in an era when Americans serve each other happily and wilfully because they know that whatever is good for their neighbor also helps them; in which Americans don't focus on themselves first; and in which we all work together to raise up the least of us, of which there will be scant few, if any.

I want to live in era in America when the Superbowl is relegated to an obscure cable channel at 3 am, American Idol viewers are viewed with seething contempt for throwing away their brains, and the pulitzer prize, nobel prize, and other intellectual award ceremonies are televised live to an enrapt American citizenry, celebrating the Americans who win while also simultaneously celebrating for all winners, from all countries.

16. Here and now. Now is the time, now is the very hour upon which tomorrow
will be built. For in time will they that in time's pass look upon us in their books of past times, they shall look down upon these times in wonder, for by them are they still made.

18. I'd go back to the 80s...
At least then, there were demonstrations and protests against Reagan and his ilk. I remember them very well, especially at college campuses (mine included). Have you noticed that whatever protests are happening today are well away from college campuses?

I had a good time in the 80s except for Reagan and friends making me furious.

only because I love the music & counter-culture revolution of the time. Plus I think I would have made a kick-ass groupie!
