God damn, my Missy's got some legs!
Edited on Tue May-02-06 09:00 PM by Redstone
Had to go to a funeral in New Hampshire on Saturday, so I wheeled out at the crack o'dawn, and hit I-91 in Vermont still very early in the morning...no traffic, no cops, just me and Missy, and she gave me 90-plus MPH for two hours solid without a whimper. No CD player, no radio, just me listening to her sing her sweet song.

And on Sunday, 'twas a fine day to doodle around with the roof down; 72 degrees and not a cloud in sight, so we took US Route 5 all the way to the Massachusetts border, soaking up the sun and the sights (I'm a REAL Red Indian today, I tell you), stumbling across such things as a church in Ryegate Corners, Vermont, with a lady minister from Mississippi (as soon as I heard her say "y'all," I had to ask: "You're not from around here, are you?") and she MADE me stay and attend the service (well, no, she did actually ask nicely, but in that way that Southern women do that you can't say no), and can you believe it, I actually went to CHURCH. And promised to do so again when I'm up there next month (another funeral). What do you suppose is next?

2. Sounds wonderful....
Driving up there is just so nice... have you taken Missy to the "Kangamangas" yet? (so aptly dubbed by a bunch of 13-yr-olds who couldn't pronounce it to save our lives!)

I'm sorry for the reason for your travels, but glad you enjoyed them.

Oh, and hey, I'm done with school on Saturday! We should have lunch sometime soon! :bounce

4. No, I avoid that road. There's always some damn Grandma in front
of me doing 12 miles an hour.

Yeah, we'll have lunch. I'd like that a lot; been too long, hasn't it? Give me about two weeks for some stuff to settle out.

5. Ah, yes, there's that....
We drove up there and across and back down one day back in 2002, pre-kiddo. It was nice :)

Drop me a call or a PM whenever the stuff is settled

6. Gotcha. Promising new medication with a few "getting used to it"
effects, plus a large project hitting deadline.

If the new stuff works, I might even be able to cut back on the Vikes. Not that they're a problem for me, but being on the 3-weeks-on and 1-week-off schedule gets old; that week off is about as much fun as a root-canal procedure. Without the Novocaine.

But I'm not complaining.

7. Oh, the fun....
 I hope the side effects calm down for you soon. I can't imagine what that week is like for you... Good luck with the project stuff!

10. Well, this new medicine is supposed to even work on diabetic
neuropathy (if I have the terminology correct), though it's an antidepressant. The doctor figures if it can help with the pain that some diabetics have (which I understand is fairly excruciating), it ought to do some good for me.

Can't hurt to try.

8. Don't you realize how much gas you could have saved by going 55?
PLANET KILLER ;-)

"I actually went to CHURCH. And promised to do so again when I'm up there next month (another funeral). What do you suppose is next?"
How do you get people to schedule funerals a month in advance?

9. I knew someone would ask that. It's simple: When someone dies
during the winter in northern New England, they don't bury them until the spring. The ground's too frozen up there to dig in the winter, even with a backhoe.

So now you know something today that you didn't know yesterday.

PS: Missy's got a turbocharger, and is aerodynamic. Going 55 would have saved me about 3/4 of a mile per gallon. And I'd have been dead of the boredom, and think of the extra Diesel fuel for the backhoe to bury me as well.
