The other week someone commented to me "Because of your low post count" blah blah blah.....

Is it necessary to make 20 posts a day to be "Accepted" in this community?

Just curious.

1. Not really.

Not everyone has several hours a day or even each week to spend on DU.

But I guess you could jack up your post count up by complaining about how low someone elses post count is.

:D

working. But it is for 3 and a half minute intervals! I just read a lot more than i post, thats all. I just don't think vapid, banal postings do much. I wont bash anyone anymore for their post count. Promise. I did it yesterday and i feel bad about it. (The person has been a member for less than 6 months and has better than twice the posts i do.)

I have also tried my best in the last 2 and a half years to never belittle a newbie or anyone with a low post count. Hell, everyone on this board had a post count of 2 at one point.

2. I'll take quality over quantity any day.
And although I don't know who said that to you, they're prolly a post spammer.

So, no worries. ;)

I mean, under 100 posts, maybe, but after that, ppl should be accepted.

6. The hell with them
There are way to many people around here who are too high strung. Everything has to have some politcal meaning, and if you haven't posted 20 a day you aren't being a good liberal. I don't even like to go post in GD anymore. Today I made a joke and I got jumped on right away. At least in the lounge people are a little calmer and have a sense of humor.

7. IIRC, the reason our post counts after 1000 are not immediately visible
is to avoid that very situation.

8. what would it mean to be "accepted"?
However, there is a certain logic to post counts. The more posts you make, the more likely you are to have a) interactions with more people and b) more interactions with a group of people. That is, the more likely it is for someone, like me, to have read a number of your posts and to think a) I know something about you, and b) to have a positive or negative impression. It is possible to do the same thing with a few really good or really bad posts too, but without a continuous presence you are likely to be forgotten, like what's her name, or who was that one guy...

9. Never heard of such a thing
is it only in the Lounge?

There are many with high number of posts consisting mostly of OMG, LOL, Exactly! and so on.

The wise person posts only when s/he has something to add to the discussion - most of the time; I've had my share of LOLs ;-)

11. You 'should' have
exactly the number of posts you do have.

(And that's my Zen moment for the evening.)

Anyone who references your post count is a post snob and unworthy of thoughtful reply.

12. i've been here longer than at least 99% of everyone here
check my number if you don't believe me.
i also have less than 2000 posts.
i spend most of my time here reading, and learning.i figure the more time you spend talking, the less time you spend listening.
a lot of what gets posted here is mindless blather,so don't let the bastards get you down.

13. After 371 days, I have 1109 including this one. If I wanted
a huge post count, I could have had one by now just by throwing a short post into every thread I visit. I prefer to make the posts actually count when possible.

As for whoever made the crack about your post count, I'd just put the asshole on ignore. Nobody who uses that as an argument has anything to say that I'm willing to spend time on.

14. No
I've been a member for 15 months and I have 1600 odd posts. Some people prefer to read more than they post, or they might just not have the time to post too often. So the 'low post count' comment was definitely uncalled for.

Sadly, DU, like any other group, has it's share of assholes.

17. After 5 years, I should have more than 1900 posts too.
But I've posted over 1000 of them just in the past four months, so I guess I'm finally starting to get up to speed.

18. I've been here 3ish years and have 1400+ posts
I like DU, but like some of the other people here, I read more than I post.

And I can't get here every day.

It also took me a while to get into the swing of things. We DUers have so many inside jokes and abbreviations that sometimes it's tough for a newbie to follow along.
