RIP John Lennon
Today is the 23rd anniversary of John Lennon's murder or "assasination" in a sense.

1. And the second anniversary of George's death
was a little more than a week ago. Sad couple of weeks for Beatles fans.

I'm going to drop my liberal hat for a second and say this: I hope Mark David Chapman rots in prison.

3. Or had there been a DP at the time
"All the John Lennon fans are saying is give (the) death (penalty) a chance."

8. Actually, I'm glad there wasn't a death penalty in NY at the time.
It gives Chapman plenty of time to think about what he did, and to realize that no matter where he goes, he will never be safe.

Officials at Attica won't even let him out in the general prison population, because they know that Chapman wouldn't last a day there. Killing the man who killed John Lennon would be like a badge of honor among inmates there.

12. Even if there weren't,
the kind of notoriety that murdering Lennon's murderer would bring would probably be sufficient reason to try and kill Chapman.

On the outside, Chapman's life wouldn't be worth a tinker's damn. There are enough pissed-off Lennon fans who would try to take him out. I wish I could say it isn't so, but there are plenty of mentally unstable Beatles fans (think Charles Manson).

7. Imagine
http://nettforlaget.net/karlsor/cgi-bin/imagine.shtml

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
And no religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will be as one.
John Lennon

16. Anecdote
There is an interesting anecdote from Liverpool author Alan Bleasdale connected with Lennon's death. When he heard the news of his death he went straight to St Georges Hall in the centre of Liverpool were many other Lennon fans had come to pay tribute and console each other. After the assembly had broken up, he and several other people went round the corner to the Shakespeare pub for a drink. The mood was sombre as each person sipped their drink and tried to contain their shock and grief. Sitting in the corner was a little old man who seemed to be oblivious to the days event. He turned to Alan Bleasdale and asked why everyone was so miserable. "Haven't you heard?" he said, "John Lennon was killed in New York today." The little old man shrugged his shoulders and said: "Is that all? If it's like this now, imagine what it's going to be like when Ken Dodd dies."

At this Bleasdale burst out laughing. It was exactly the kind of humour that John would have appreciated, he said.

Can you believe it's been 23 years since we lost John? It certainly would be great to have him around in this day and age, wouldn't it?

Interesting how it's only the left-leaning celebrities, politicians, etc, who get murdered, huh?

Guess I'll dig out "The John Lennon Collection" for work today....
