3. much as I like Star Trek
My tree ornament thread gives that away... but there are certain lines I can't cross. I am a strong casual fan, or a weak fanatic. :-)

4. Nuts.
Well, the think is I am tinkering with a book idea, and it will be heavly steeped in Klingon mytholigy. But not just Kayless, but with a fictionl religion that preseaded him. But I gess I can make up words just as easly as any one else can I suppose.

6. Wow! Is it getting nerdy in here, or is it just me?
Just kidding! I love Star Trek, but learning Klingon is going a little too far. My mother wanted to learn, though. I think she knows a few words.

8. KLI.org can help
I once wrote a death threat in Klingon after two days of digging through www.kli.org

I'm not fluent in Klingon, but I'd buy the Klingon-English dictionary in a heartbeat if I saw it on the shelf :P

9. Esperanto, yes
My introduction to language in general and "ConLangs" in particular was with Esperanto. I was enrolled in an experimental program when I was in 7th grade. I had good grades, except for English, which I was failing. My grades went from a D to an A in one marking period.

It didn't help that my English teacher was a psychopath, a child abuser, and a prominent Republican committeebeing, but that's another story.

When the KLI first opened, I got junk mail from them at least once a week; KLI had the ELNA (Esperanto League for North America) mailing list. The KLI is about five miles away from where I live, so Lawrence Schoen (the Big Klingonist; I think that's how he spells his name) probably figured I'd be a good contact.

I've met many Klingonists, and they're all fine people. Unfortunately, I have a natural revulsion toward learning a language that is a piece of property. One friend of mine translated Hamlet into Klingon and has had no end of trouble with the Paramount intellectual property police.

Esperanto, Interlingua, Volapük, Lojban -- none of these will charge you a dime and there's no threat that you will be taken to court for not paying their creators a royalty. If Paramount releases Klingon into the public domain, maybe I'll develop a little more interest in it.

That more people in America speak Klingon than do Navajo? Just wondering.

11. sorry
Even though I'm a huge star trek geek I refuse to learn something as stupid as that.

Different ship classes are ok, but a language?? I'd rather learn a real language like german, french or spanish
