Michael Hedges fans sign in here
I've spent much of my day today digitizing a tape of a Michael Hedges concert in Portland, Maine from 1995.

I'm curious--how many of my fellow DU'ers were fans of the late, great acoustic guitarist Michael Hedges?

He passed tragically in a single-car accident in late 1997 on the pacific coast highway. I can't believe that it's been almost 10 years.

Did you ever see Michael Hedges live? Where and when? What are your memories of the occasion?

2. Saw him twice...
...first time: right after the release of "Arial Boundries".
Second time: after the release of his "vocal" album (can't remember title). Both times in Boulder, Colorado. He was one of the best.

3. Do you have this video with Hedges?

It has many clips of him playing-including the acoustic version of "Follow Through" which I have yet to find released.
I saw him live at the Cubby Bear in Chicago in early 1994, after Taproot was released.
The man could not only play unlike no other, he had a fantastic voice.
Have you heard his version of the Stones "Gimme Shelter"? I like it better than the original.

4. Oh god, just shut up and play. That man should have been born mute.
Genius guitarist, and more importantly, composer. Just don't let him sing.

5. I used to watch him perform at the Johns Hopkins Ratskellar
He attended Peabody Conservatory when I was there. This was before he'd made any recordings, and he was still defining his style. Through the beer haze, I remember enjoying his music very much. And though I'm not sure too many people were actually listening, he always had a crowd of loyal fans.

6. I was a big-time Windham Hill fan...
...and Hedges was one of their best. Another poster makes a valid point about his singing--Hendrix didn't need to open his mouth, either.
