Poll question: Should the college football National Champ be decided by Playoff or BCS?
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 11:56 PM by sasquatch
I think they should have a 16 team playoff system in which all confrence champs will be included along with at large teams.

1. PLAYOFFS!!!!!
BCS is bullshit. I think this year should prove that once and for all.

11. Did you see the Falcons/Panthers game tonight?
During one of the breaks when a player was injured, one of the announcers said "BCS should just remove the letter C from it, b/c that's what it is". And on a live ESPN event to boot (which is part of the ABC/Disney conglomerate).

2. I'm Not Watchin College Football Again Until There's A Championship Game
Figure skating is decided by judges, not football. Footbal should be decided on the field.

3. Figure Skating is not a sport
But I agree with what you said about football should be decided on the field though.

6. Why does it always take them this long to figure stuff out like that
Hell how long have people been screaming for overtime before they gave them overtime rules? Forever and a fucking day that's how long. I think the NCAA needs to grow a pair and tell the university presidents we're having a playoff system if you don't like it than fuck off.

5. Eight teams, I say...
It's practical.

Given my 'druthers, I'd go for a sixty four team playoff. If we timed it right, it could take us through 'til March Madness.

9. playoff all the way
What is the reasoning behind letting the small schools have a playoff, but not the big schools? I don't understand.

10. My take on this...
bowl games = $$$ for the schools. I think they're afraid of having playoffs means no more bowl games, but if that's somewhat true it's rediculous, you could still have bowl games that have no playoff meaning.

14. except it would drive the season into competition with the NFL playoffs
and superbowl. The mighty buck powers behind the NFL are not likely to let that happen, unchallenged, anytime soon.

13. Playoffs will never happen - unless limited to only a handful of teams.
Basic rule of timing. Just after New Years - the NFL Playoffs are in full swing. They who have the power and money do NOT want to compete with college football playoffs. Then there would be no drama and buildup (and tons of money to be made) leading up to the Superbowl.

Need any proof beyond basic Saturday College football (with the periodic Thurs pm game) with no NFL going on, and Sunday NFL football (and Monday Night football, natch). This is neatly devised so no profits cut into the other.

So to do playoffs that extend more than a couple of weeks... one would have to shorten the overall season (and teams NOT going to the playoffs or bowls {or do you get rid of all of the bowls... then you have a whole other profit making group fit to be tied and fighting this} would fight tooth and nail - they want the general season revenues (and when lucky the TV revenues.)

One could cut out the whole Bowl thing (again - sponsors and cities would be fighting this - as it would cut off revenues)

Or one squeezes playoffs into two weeks in December - that is only four teams - unless you expect a team to play two times in a weekend!

Sorry to be the pragamtic wet towell in the conversation.

16. Also
Most Division 1-A colleges are having their mid-term and final exams in the month of December and you really want the Athletes to be focused on their education rather then advancing in the next round. 16 teams is too much, I say a 4 team playoff, if you can't crack the top 4 after the regular season you don't deserve a second shot at the national championship.

17. Who say's we'd start it after New Years
I say we start it two weeks after the regular season ends. We'll play it in the former bowl city's and have the championship game rotated between the Fiesta, Sugar, Orange and Rose. If the other city's don't want to host the non-qualifing schools that's too damned bad.

15. Playoffs

I don't see why they shouldn't have playoffs and a championship game. Then there would be a clear-cut champion. The current system is too complicated and political.
