Poll question: Old Greenday vs. New Greenday
I love Greenday's American idiot, and I love the message, but I like their older music so much better. How about ya'll?

The older stuff a bit too one note compared to American Idiot IMO. On American Idiot, their playing breaks out into something new. All of it is great, though, as I said.

12. the thing is
admitting you only really liked Dookie tends to draw reactions like "Grow up already!" or whatnot

Plus its fun to tell people who've never heard of it that one of your favorite albums is "Dookie" too :)

EDIT: and as for American Idiot, if you are going to classify it as "punk" then I liked A Mute Print by A Wilhelm Scream a billion times better from 2004

14. Well, I'm not concerned with degrees of punk
Or else I wouldn't also be an Avril fan. I just love what I love.

19. While we're on the subject of degrees of punk...
Technically, Avril's at -400 Celsius.

17. Since we're talking punk, have you heard the new Propagandhi album?
Now THAT is what political punk rock should be.

23. LOL, I never cared for them
I always thought they were like NOFX but after they put out their best stuff (punk in drublic, so long..., heavy petting zoo) and lost their energy. Everything from White Trash on basically. Thats not much to hang your hat on really

But they do have stupid song titles, so thats a plus...I guess

24. Their two most recent albums have actually been great...
I'm not a big NOFX fan, so I wouldn't draw that comparison at all, especially with their newest album.

Seriously, download this: http://www.g7welcomingcommittee.net/mp3/propagandhi_diejugend.mp3

And the lyrics: http://www.plyrics.com/lyrics/propagandhi/americasarmydiejugendmarschiert.html

15. you probably don't like the pre-Dookie stuff much then
not very catchy for the most part, less so than Insomniac even. The only song I really remember from it was their Operation Ivy cover (All I know is I don't know nothing)

That was one of the reasons I never got into Billy Joes side band Pinhead Gunpowder. Although their Shoot The Moon EP was fucking amazing

7. It all gets a big fat "meh" from me...
Though Dookie and Insomniac were decent albums, and Nimrod had its moments. I've been saying this for ages though: American Idiot is such an overrated album.

16. I still don't see how that would make it worthy of all the praise it got.
Not like it's something new. Hüsker Dü did it (quite masterfully) back in '84 and The Mars Volta's past two albums have been epic-as-fuck concept albums as well, not to mention the last three Coheed and Cambria albums (even though they're a little Rush-esque). American Idiot, to me, seemed like a typical Green Day album, but with a political undertone and 8 minute songs. Not really worthy of the infininte praise it seemed to garner.

Again, not saying it's a bad album, just that I really don't think it deserved all the praise it got.

What else can we say, primate? It's not like our minds will be changed.

It may not be new, but it's the execution that counts.

25. green day is the AC/DC of punk.....
pretty much kept the same sound and look for the past 15 years...which is a good thing in my book. nothing better than staying true to your roots. i recall them as always being somewhat political personally, but american idiot's timing was right on. it was a big FU to the clear channels of the country that couldn't afford NOT to play them or produce a dixie chick style protest towards them. say what you will...they opened up a lot of young eyes and hearts to our side with this album...thats the most commendable thing they could have ever done....

whichever CD that was on. A friend of mine lent me the CD once but I thought the rest of it was kind of odd.
