I spent all morning listening to terrible music.
My friend and I are making each other mix cd's but the catch is that we have to put a few godawful songs in the mixes for fun. Then we have to try to figure out which songs the other thinks are the godawful ones. (It won't be difficult in the case of my mix. I hope.)

So I just spent the morning digging through the iTunes music store to find terrible songs and now my ears are bleeding. I went with a few 90's "hits" and a few current craptacular songs I've never heard of. What I learned: There's so much stuff out that's popular, evidently, that I've never even heard of. I also learned that 7 seconds of Rascal Flatts is more than enough for a lifetime.

Any of you have any iTunes life lessons you'd like to share? :hi:

4. Well take heart...
Compared to the crap I just sifted through those songs seem like the best things ever recorded.

Trust me, that taste is AWFUL. :)

even someone like like Emma Roberts or Hilary Duff is ok for that age - I still would call their taste in its beginning stage.

14. Eye of the Tiger? On a couples skate?
What rink did you go to? Gotta save that for a speed skate baby!

15. No, Eye of the Tiger, *then* the couples skate.
Eye of the Tiger is for when you're on the prowl. :D

16. Ah. Ok, that makes sense...
...Eye of the tiger, then probably, oh, I don't know, "Carless Whisper" for the couples skate? Maybe "Endless Love". Almost makes me want to break out my parachute pants again!

5. I used to listen to the Top Gun soundtrack all the time
I found it in the stage management office of the theater I worked for. No one would fess up to it's ownership and pretty much everyone has access to the office. I liked it in that cheesy, crappy music way. It would also piss off the stage manager I didn't like. I mean, if I had to deal with her reptile tank lighting (she couldn't have the florescents on, so she clipped little dome spot lights around), she could deal with the Top Gun soundtrack. It was horrible working with her. Hated thin people, wore only Winnie the Pooh clothes, closeted lesbian, born-again Christian Republican and a bitch. Basically, given those characteristics, theatre is the wrong field.

The only amusing thing she ever did was she steal a Christmas tree. She got really drunk & stoned (!!!) at a opening night gala after-party. The guys hosting it lived across the street from a YMCA with a Christmas tree lot. Well, when she was leaving, her & her gf took a tree, tied it to the top of their Subaru and drove off. She said she paid for it the next day.

6. What did you download?
I'm not a Rascal Flatts fan either, but there's lots of stuff on the front page of iTunes if you look hard. The song of the week from Damone introduced me to a new musical love.

9. Oh you're gonna hate me.

I picked the Damone song as a secret bad one. Sorry.

:hide:

But it was free so that was 80% of the reasoning behind that one. I also went with a Bo Bice song, a song by something called Trapt, a Barenaked Ladies song, and a..ok the Mr. Big song.

Now, mockery aside, I know taste is subjective and of course people should like what they like. I know lots of what I like could certainly be considered crap by a good number of people. But my friend and I were having a conversation about music yesterday and out of that this fun little challenge was born. In fact, in that conversation we both laughed at each other's tastes more than once so that's why I think this will be good experiment in the end--I don't know what he's putting on the cd and I don't know if I'll be able to guess which ones are supposed to be the joke songs or not.

edit: You're right about the iTunes page. I rarely use the music store but I did find some old things I thought I'd never see again and some other things that looked interesting enough.

12. Bad Jane!
LOL. I could disagree more about Damone - it's great rock - but Bo hasn't reached his potential. I love the Barenaked Ladies, but not sure what song you heard. They haven't put out a regular studio album recently.

I think your activity is fun, though. :hi:

8. i just heard a dancesque cover of "all i wanna do" by sheryl crow
and the singer felt the need to say that she liked a good caffeine buzz in the morning, because goodness knows sheryl crow was just too much of a wild child and it was about time someone cleaned up those unwholesome lyrics :eyes:

10. Too bad Sheryl didn't really write it...
I suspect her name on the credits was out of courtesy. RIP Kevin Gilbert.

17. I also..
take a look at the Just For You section. Have found some good stuff there, but bad recommendations here:

Ashlee Simpson
Emma Roberts
Hilary Duff
JoJo
Chris Cagle
Christina Millan

Now I've bought CDs from the first three artists - but by mistake! That's bad advice.

18. Does anyone..
also get a kick out of the celebrity playlists? Mandy Moore's was the last one I went to. I found about about Hem from her - I'm planning on buying Rabbit Songs. Went to Ashlee Simpson's, and Rosie Thomas bored me. Though I agree with Ashlee's picks more than I like her music.

21. Some of the celebrity playlists are okay...
The Sam Roberts Band's list is good.

The fact that Ashlee Simpson's has a Glassjaw song makes me feel dirty.

Jerry Bruckheimer's taste in music is worse than the movies he produces.

Now I'm looking forward to going back. And, as to your post below on celebrity playlists--wtf are they about? The Kurt Loder one had me cracking up not because his picks were bad, but because poor Kurt Loder is still hanging in there.
