I think that I'm getting bored with "JanMichael". What user-name...
...would you suggest for me should I decide to lose 1,000,000,000 posts?

No need to be gentle or polite either:-)

Better yet what would YOU, if you're getting bored, rather have as a user-name?

Or perhaps just Dr. Rieux?

Remember that charm is a way of getting the answer yes without asking a clear question.

No...He was...Crap. I haven't read that book in over 4 years! He worked on the serum but...You got me, I don't get it.

and was the supportive friend who backed him up. And remember..Rieux found the problem..Castel found the cure!

32. Oh. I remember now.
I guess I've just always related to the existential hero Rieux and not so much Castel.

Thank you so much for the compliment.

Just curious...What Camus or Kundera character do you relate to? My first one is Sabine.

36. Probably Ludvik in "The Joke"
I haven't read Ignorance yet, but I plan to. I've read most of his other stuff..what sticks more than his characters is the totality of the absurd.

37. Really? That's heavy on the weight of the absurd...
I'm not sure if I've had enough personal persecution to really relate to him.

Time IS on my side there though.

38. I think the majesty of Kundera's brilliance is that everyone can be
any of his characters at some point in their life. Funny, that's what makes Camus so appealing to me as well.

41. They have a similar style when creating characters.
One common thread is their almost bemused, yet realistic, apathy in the face of over powering forces. Be they a totalitarin state or a disease that's wiping people out...Or a court system that's inflexible combined with an intolerant culture. What do you mean that you didn't cry at you mother's funeral? Kundera may have the Lighter characters though, no, I take that back, he wrote during a Lighter period so their environment gave the impression only. Camus's creations are almost all faced with Weight that crushes, yet they rarely break under that presure.

43. I think that is why I relate to them.
I've lived through some really hard knocks in my life. Some I have shared, others I haven't - but inside me I know that no matter what life tosses at me, I'll either survive or I won't so what is the big deal?
