2. I nearly lost faith in the Lounge!
I saw Come September on TCM last weekend, and I've been playing one of his CDs a lot lately.

Somewhere beyond the sea
somewhere waiting for me
my lover stands on golden sands
and watches the ships that go sailin...

14. A wonderful choice
I've requested A Song For You by Leon Russell to be played by my husband. I wonder if anyone else has done this. Music has always been important. It got me through all the good and bad times. I can spend a whole day mixing it up, playing a little of everything. Italian opera (Russell Watson), some Motown, swing and some Led Zeppelin for good measure. It all moves me.
Here are the lyrics, I dedicate to my husband of 25 years:

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' can't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

8. Great entertainer--a horrible loss.
I think he would have been our generation's Frank Sinatra--he was that good.

13. I just got Dream Lovers out of the library the other day.....
what a timely post. (well, I just saw Gidget on Turner Classic Movies!)

They both had hard, and at times, tragic lives. :(
