"Inform the Canadian Time": this time, the topic is Dennis Kucinich...
For once, the topic isn't "Krispy Kreem"

Okay, please don't let this devolve into a GD Forum style-smearfest. I know emotions are high in the Dem rank and file as who is the 'right' candidate, but I have some simple questions about Dennis Kucinich.

Basically, the more I hear from this man, the more I believe he'd be the Candidate I'd vote for. Particularly the idea of a Department of Peace, which despite having a chillingly Orwellian name, is a great idea!

So, where does he fit into the landscape? Is he the "Nader" of the Democratic Party--an idealist who would not stand a chance of winning, and divert votes away from a chance of installing a mainstream Progressive?

How radical are his other platforms?

Does he stand a chance?

Also, and please don't think I'm being cruel, he's a little odd-looking. That shouldn't matter in politics, but we all know it does, and usually at society's cost. Case in point: Lincoln would never have been elected if CNN's image-based reporting was around in his day. Do you Dennis K is 'pretty' enough to be President?

1. In terms of social policy, economic and trade issues
Dennis could never have been elected in 2000. That does not mean, however that he is not electable in autumn 2004.

Next fall will not look like now, though we may find ourselves looking back on America's economy with wistful longing. We will look back and wish we were as free to dissent as we were in 2003. Because by then, they will be doing mass detention (long enough to get fired) and reporting of all those held as terrorist sympathizers.

In that America, Kucinich, Dean, and Clark all look viable. Lieberman, Gep, and anyone else who voted to let Bush start this mess is toast.
Of course, that will hurt the Pubs far worse than us.

One final thought--
This Christmas season may wind up being a psychologically crippling time, because if I wanted to do maximum damage to America, I would slip a wooden shoe into the cogs of the annual consumer orgy. It would be a blow on economic and psycholgical terms, and like 911, primarily against financial, and strategic rather than population based targets.

2. Kucinich is my guy
He's got my primary vote here in Ohio.

Even though I'm a supporter, I don't think Kucinich has got a chance to win the nomination. I think he's too far to the left for most Americans. I'm just simply voting my conscience in the primary and I will vote for whoever gets the nomination.

Regarding his looks. I can think of a few presidents who weren't all that pretty. Nixon comes to mind. So I don't think that is a factor.

3. I dunno...Nixon, although in many peoples' living memory...

is a product of another time, when anchorpeople were journalists, for example, and not failed swimsuit models.

Remember, it was Nixon's looks and TV mannerisms which played a huge part in JFK's victory.

Nixon rose to power before TV became such a powerful (and simplistic) medium.

4. Let's look at a current "product:"
George W. Bush.

I think Dennis can hold his own in the looks department!

6. Just playing devils' advocate here...
but GWB is arguably not bad looking (for a coke-addled alcoholic, of course, with the IQ of a slack-jawed piece of peanut brittle), and his Yale photo makes him look quite the Bright Eyed All-American. And, there's no argument that he's WASP, which is many peoples' ideal of 'good-looking'.

I don't think Dennis K is bad looking, but he doesn't look like Roger Ramjet, which is who the spinmeisters always try to make the President resemble.

7. Yep Bush is a WASP
Whos Roger Ramjet?
Damned WASP society :D, you know how some people say its the Jewish people who are behind everything, I say nah its more so the WASPs, btw me and Dennis kind of have simliar heritages, he has some Irish blood like I, Croatian which is of course what Kucinich is, I myself am part Slovenian which is from that same region, I am also German and Slovak. canuckamok look at the names of our presidents and tell me if you dont think those are some WASPy people, with the exception of Kennedy and some others.

8. "Whos Roger Ramjet"?????!!
And you call yourself an American?!

http://www.rogerramjet.com/

"Roger Ramjet and his Eagles,
Fighting for our freedom,
Fly through in and outer-space,
not to join 'em but to beat 'em,
So come along all you kids for lots of fun and laughter,
As Roger Ramjet and his men get all the crooks they're after.
Roger Ramjet and his Eagles,
Heroes of our nation,
For their adventures just be sure and stay tuned to this station"!

Roger Ramjet was a spoof of all the All-American superhero-types of the 50s and 60s. He was a resoundingly stupid fighter pilot who fought villand with the help of is American Eagle Squadron, who were Yank, Doodle, Dan and Dee.

It's hilarious. Very much like Bullwinkle.

If you have to ask who Bullwinkle is, you're on your own from here on in...
