Question about New Jersey smoking ban and casino lounges/bars
I play at quite a few casinos in New Jersey, and I'm wondering how the smoking ban applies to bars and lounges within casinos. For example, the Blue Martini lounge in Bally's is connected to the casino floor, but is in a separate room. (There's a big opening between the two, but it's obviously not part of the casino floor.) Or the Eden Lounge in Harrah's, which is between the floor containing the slots and other gaming tables and the poker area. What, exactly, counts as the casino floor in that case?

With casinos, I get the feeling that it will end up being like the non-smoking section in a Denny's restaurant: a nice idea, but completely pointless.

1. I don't know about New Jersey
But, before they banned smoking all together here, it was only allowed in places that were 18+ (Bars, etc) and the area had to be ventilated and closed off from any area that wasn't 18+

3. I think it's only allowed on the gaming floor, but...
I'm not positive. I still think the whole thing is an infringement on the rights of private buisiness owners. However, I think the 25' from an entrance thing is really fucking stupid. I'm glad that's not getting enforced yet.

9. So everyone entering and leaving....
Should have to be engulfed in your cloud of toxic fumes just to enter a building?! That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard! But it won't ever get enforced, I say this because freaking hospitals who are completely smoke free campuses don't even enforce it. But I still think it should be a little building out back where you have to go to smoke. I'm deathly allergic and if I smell any of it my asthma kicks in full throttle, and I can't breathe. It's taken a long time to build up, but now it's getting to point where I could DIE if I smell it. 25 feet is not that far away. Deal with it.

5. If it's an Indian casino
They're not subject to state law.

Probably true if it's a Mafia casino too... :hide:

7. Smoking is still permitted in Atlantic City.

Just had this discussion with regularly gambling NJ residents yesterday. I don't know if it is restricted to the gaming area because we didn't talk about it that specifically.

10. The smoking ban doesn't apply to the casinos
That's one of the reasons the bars/restaurants in the rest of the state are so pissed off.

12. that's the message I got
And not only are the bars/restaurants pissed but so are many of the casino employees who were hoping for cleaner air to breath

Alot of people do not realize that these bans are mainly for improved employee working conditions.
