Don't be afraid to talk politics in the grocery store
Big storm warning in Maine today. The grocery store was swamped. Lines were bad and I started talking to a women I knew in front of the poultry case. Long story short, she has been a Green supporter since day one and let me know that she will do anything right now to defeat Bush. More conversation....Now, she is helping to plan a Democratic party meeting in our town, which hasn't happened in years. ..Lesson to be learned to you Duers, let no opporutnity pass right now to get the word out about Bush and preach until your sneakers untie themselves.
As an aside, a man with his elderly mother was in the same shopping lot a week ago. He had a bumpersticker on his car about a Democratic candidate. I walked up to him and said it was great to see such a sticker on his car. He was aghast at first and then just about gave me the keys to his car, he was so unnervred.
"Wow, thanks so much." he said.

1. I had the same thing happen over the Thanksgiving holiday
I was talking to a woman in line about the strike..the conversation turned to Arnold and the fires and people that believe anything. She is an RN for a non-profit cancer treatment center.. we had a fabulous five minutes in line talking about people who are voting against their own interests.

5. It took a lot of guts to start the conversation against Bush...
Because I didn't know where she was coming from...But God it felt so good to proclaim my policitics in a public place...

4. My whole town is Republican
But anything goes wrong, like deliveries weren't made the day before the storm instead of waiting for the storm to start before canceling, I start in, "This country is in a mess. Is anything ever going to start going right for us?" Before you know it, they're all chiming in not even realizing they're talking against Bush! It's fun. I even finessed a couple of these gripe fests into a Clark spiel. "Exactly, that's why I like Gen. Clark. He says...." They're just nodding away in total agreement. B-)

7. Change 5-25 opinions
I am in a bit of the same situation. I think there are 100 people in the right situation where I can get votes for the Dems for president.

I am working on the folks and with each one comes 2-8 votes. Every counts, pretty much.

8. Hey lurkers come on in...
I am very shy by nature and I had the guts to talk to someone today who I was not sure of their political pursuation. Even if you guys don't post, can you at least go out on a limb and approach someone tomorrow or the next day, who you think might be on our side and ask them to join DU? I am convinced after today that it is one voter at a time...

9. Republican mail to previous occupant soliciting funds comes regularly
to our house. We always send the postage paid ones back with comments like "Are you out of your frikken minds?!!" My husband was carrying one out to the mailbox when the postman asked (horrified) "You're not sending money to that bunch of crooks up there, are you?" My good hubby said "HELL no! I'm just trying to cost them a little money!"
