11. Oh Yeah Baby... Tower Of Power !!!
Came out in the early 70's as an East Bay 'Funk' band. Part of the legendary SF\Bay Area\Fillmore\Winterland scene. One of Bill Graham's faves.

Songs that went national:

Down To The Nightclub
You're Still A Young Man
So Very Hard To Go
You've Got To Funkifize
and a few others...

Also did a WHOLE BUNCH of studio work for other bands. They were the horns on:

Elton John's 'Bitch Is Back'
Santana's 'Everybodies Everything'
and many more...

Letterman used to get so excited when they appeared on his show with Paul Schaeffer's Orchestra to funk up da house.

And...

Lenny Pickett, the head of SNL's band, was their main tenor sax for many years.

I also loved Cold Blood. With Lydia Pense's vocals, it was like Janis Joplin with TOP horns. And it don't get much better than dat!!!

 :hippie:

13. The Funny Thing, Is How They're Mainly Known For Their Horns...
This was one of the tightest bands of all times.

Put on some headphones and listen to 'Squib Cakes' from their fourth albumn, 'Back To Oakland'.

The bass player, the drummer, the guitarist, the Leslie organ...

Holy Shit, HOT !!!

I almost get orgasmic over that song. But I won't. Not here at least, LOL!!!

:hi:

9. You beat me to it
They're my favorite horn band of that era.

You´re a shining star, no matter who you are
Shining bright to see what you can truly be
That you can truly be
