Pictures from the Alps - *Dial up warning*
After a week of business in Geneva I got to go into the mountains for some fun. Took a train to Interlaken and then up to Grindelwald on Saturday morning. You can take a gondola up the mountain from right in town. Hiked 7.5 miles back down into the town on Saturday and then went up the Eiger on the other side of the valley via the cog railway on Sunday. Didn't have as much time Sunday so I only hiked halfway down and hopped back on the train the rest of the way.

Looking across the valley from 1st day hike to the Eiger, the Jungfrau is the big peak to the right.

Cog Railway that goes up the Eiger

Grave of mountaineers in the local churchyard.
Andreas Maurer was on the first ascent of Mont Blanc. William Penhall has several first ascents and climbed with Mummery. There were several other graves with an ice axe and climbing rope engraved on the stone.

Coming off the mountain into town

Igloo Bar on the Eiger. Unfortunately it was closed for the season.

2. What an amazing landscape...
It just boggles my mind that people can look at features like that headwall and think "Hmm, I think I'll climb up that..."
