1. That's a shame.
I liked Gene Pitney...his "Town Without Pity" was a classic.

2. What's the story behind "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"?
I mean, it wasn't in the movie.

Was the song intended to be in the movie but didn't make it?

Was the song inspired by the movie?

Just wondering.

3. the song
from imdb

"Many people take Gene Pitney's recording of "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" to be the theme song from the movie but, as Gene himself reports: "The song `Liberty Valance' was written for the movie but for some strange reason never was put in the sound track. Because of the prior success with "Town Without Pity" I was paid a bundle to record the song, and Burt Bacharach produced it. He wrote the song with Hal David. There was some screw-up between the publishing company, Famous Music, and the parent company, Paramount Pictures, as to why it never was in the actual film<...> The most bizarre part of the story I found out a few years ago. The actual music used in the film was from a 1938 Henry Fonda film called Young Mr. Lincoln (1939). Go figure that out!" (more)?

4. I used to listen to Town Without Pity over and over
and I also loved The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence.

He had the most unique voice.

5. "She's a Heartbreaker" was my favorite.....
Gene Pitney song, I have the 45rpm around here, somewhere.

"The way you sock it to me, girl, you're outta sight....
Heatbreaker, heartbreaker"

So sad to see ya go, Gene. RIP
