I've made it to Massachusetts
Staying for a couple days in western Mass, then off to Boston!

I drove over 1100 miles yesterday. I'm still exhausted.

Things I discovered:

1. Kansas is one motherfucking hot state.

2. Kansas City is not great.

3. The St. Louis arch is actually kinda neat.

4. Illinois, Ohio, and New York all kinda look the same :-)

3. Welcome!
It's a beautiful day here in W. Ma! Glad to have you! If you have the time, visit Amherst & Northampton...great bookstores, great food, great coffee and progressives as far as the eye can see (for the most part) :hi:

5. I visited both Amherst and Northhampton last Christmas
I really like them both.

I'm in Shelburne Falls right now. Super small. But the weather is really great right now.

9. Yep
My fiancee works on a farm in Buckland. If you're out & about, check out North River Glass Blowing, it's on the side street that leads to the Glacial Potholes. On the other side of the main street, there's a cool bookstore on the second floor of one of the bldgs.

I'm in love with the Williamstown/Adams/North Adams area.

Route 2 is one of the best drives in the country, IMNSHO.

6. Kansas is VERRRRY hot this time of year
If you went I-70 you did not get to see much of it, but the rest of it looks pretty much the same :)

This time of year Kansas has :

1.opressive heat
2.opressive humidity
3.grasshoppers the size of a flying poodle
4.wheat/corn/milo/ as far as they eye can see

Kansas City has some great parts, but you have to have the time to search them out.. Sorry you didn't have the time..:(

Mass sounds very pretty..:)

10. Hooray!
Katy and I are leaving in a few days for AZ. We expect eastern Oregon to be a hot desert hellhole, and it will be our first time in southern Idaho and any part of Utah.

When I moved to Seattle back in 1988, I drove through Missouri, and you are correct about KC - it sucks. Kansas was hell. 500 miles of bumpy interstate, and it all looked the same the entire length. No wonder Bob Dole is grumpy.

Glad you made it okay! :hi: Talk soon.

11. Great that you made it here. Welcome!
I'm in the Boston area; feel free to PM me--after you get in town and somewhat settled into your new digs, maybe we can meet for a cuppa and I'd be happy to fill you in on this small big city.

15. Western MA?
You mean there's something west of 495?? :wtf:

Just kidding!! When you're in Boston, be sure to take the Freedom Trail - it's a nice way to see a lot of the historical sights. The Brown Sugar Cafe on Commonwealth Ave (aka Comm Ave) has the best Thai food in the city, along with their other restaurant on Jersey St. near Fenway. Be sure to hit the MIT museum in Cambridge - cheap and really fun. Have fun in MA! There's good weather at last!!

16. Didja go to the top of the arch??
If so, was it windy that day? :scared: You could have waved at some of my relatives on the east side of Big Muddy.

Glad you arrived in MA safely. Good luck getting to Boston!

17. Oh and Another Thing
How can you say NY and Illinois look anything alike?

Illinois is flatland!

Did you drive I-90? Chances are you got to see the Catskills in the distance, but you missed the Adirondacks. More's the pity.

I can't believe my home state got called similar to flatland.

Go to the Dinosaur Barbeque! The Big Dog loves the place, from what I hear.

19. Shelburne Falls? You're in Eastern Mass from where I sit
Here in the Berkshires, anything east of Springfield is a suburb of Boston.

But then again, to those in Boston, Springfield is in New York State.
