5. it's not really an elephant
It's a ganesha... the elephant-headed god of the Hindu. They believe that he removes obstacles.

Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 01:28 PM by Shine
don't you want a female aspect of the divine, instead?

on edit: She IS kind of intense and scary-looking, though. You could pick another goddess....or whatever.

:hi: Good luck and have fun!

Anyway, you can always get Ganesh on the other thigh. There's almost always room for a tattoo you want.

17. How about Shiva?

Shiva is the father of Ganesha and the embodiment of destruction. He is one of the three main gods of Hinduism. Brahma is construction, Vishnu is maintenance and Shiva is destruction. And Shiva is the most powerful one since it creates changes.

If you're still in school, and if you have any ambition to make a career of it, he would be very appropriate.

NEVER ask for tattoo advice on DU...It's like asking for sex advice on a fundie discussion board.

though I don't understand the fundie discussion board similie.

I really like both of these, and may end up getting both of them eventually, but just couldn't decide which one to get next. Both of them have meaning in my life.

Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 04:00 PM by primate1
He's saying that most people here don't know what they're talking about when it comes to tattoos.

(And a lot of people here hate tatoos, so I guess it's similar to fundies encouraging abstinence.)

39. Given the number of people here who probably HAVE tats
my first impression is to doubt the connection. Have people had hostile reactions in discussions of tatoos?

I don't have any, and I'm never planning on getting one, but they're still nice.

35. upper thigh
I have one other tattoo. It's my avatar, and it's on the other thigh.

My tattoos are for me, I put them where I will see them every day, but where few other people will get to see them (though I imagine when I do my triathlon this summer, quite a few people will get to see).

33. A line art version of the Ganesha would be awesome.
That version is a bit too busy for a tatoo.

The picasso is beautiful, but it would look like the tatoo artist made a mistake. People would not get that the flowers are deliberately drawn that way.

41. Go with a ganesha, but not THAT ganesha
The body of this ganesha is flesh-colored, which makes this piece mostly black outline--not my favorite style of tattoo. There's some real subtle shading in the body, but you can't get that subtle in tattoo.

Picasso's dove is all outline.

A shaded ganesha with fades in the shading--that would be really nice.
