Crazy Cat Terrorizes Connecticut Town - Is Put On "House Arrest"

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Residents of the neighborhood of Sunset Circle say they have been terrorized by a crazy cat named Lewis. Lewis for his part has been uniquely cited, personally issued a restraining order by the town's animal control officer.

"He looks like Felix the Cat and has six toes on each foot, each with a long claw," Janet Kettman, a neighbor said Monday. "They are formidable weapons."

The neighbors said those weapons, along with catlike stealth, have allowed Lewis to attack at least a half dozen people and ambush the Avon lady as she was getting out of her car.

Some of those who were bitten and scratched ended up seeking treatment at area hospitals.

Animal Control Officer Rachel Solveira placed a restraining order on him. It was the first time such an action was taken against a cat in Fairfield.

In effect, Lewis is under house arrest, forbidden to leave his home.

1. I've got one of those @ my house. She's blak & white too.
I think there is a mutation with B&W cats that makes them CRAZY.

3. I had a kitty who went crazy like that
and the vet said it was generally a slow growing brain tumor that did it.

The other thing that can do it is rabies, but I'll bet Lewis has had his shots (he looks well cared for) so that's probably not it.

I had to put my kitty down. I still miss her.

6. I'm sorry to hear about your cat
They are with us for such a short time, even if they live to be a senior citizen in cat years.

21. I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I wonder though if I need to have coco
checked. She's really just going mad and it is so sad to watch.

23. It won't hurt to have a vet evaluate her
By the time I had my cat put down, I was wearing boots around the house because I never knew when she'd have one of her fits. It was getting to the point that she didn't have that gleam in her eye between them, so it was time for her to go peacefully, in my lap with a vet's help. She purred through the whole thing. I still feel like a murderess.

I had another cat die of a brain tumor, but apparently hers was in a different location. I noticed she'd gone blind and a week later she started having seizures. She went peacefully in my lap without the vet's help, although I'd gotten some Valium from him to control her seizures.

Anyway, get the kitty evaluated. You're going to have to decide when it's time for her to go, although she'll probably tell you herself. There may be new kitty meds on the market by now that will control her behavior without ruining her quality of life. A vet will be able to tell you that.

Good luck with her. It's a heartbreaking thing to go through, watching an old friend's personality change so drastically.

24. Not so funny
A cat in full attack is like a hairy chainsaw, and any bite that penetrates the skin will result in a nasty infection requiring systemic antibiotics.

It's nothing to laugh at and can result in a liability suit.

4. So that's what the scroll across the bottom of the TV was about..
I saw that Lewis the cat was under house arrest..I pictured a lion..tiger..not a usual..well in this case unusual house cat.

I think they said in the video at the link that he's on medication now..

7. Thanks for posting this..saw the headline but thought the cat was killed
so I chose not to read it...Glad to hear he was put under 'house arrest'. I had a 6 toed kitty he was orange and WAY LAID back. Another in our neighborhood was orange and 6 toed and was killed by a dog..and he/she was WAY LAID back...

Maybe it is the color and not the number of toes? You know genetics?

. . . the CrazyOrangeCat will be able to drive off all solicitors.

Between that and rodent control, she definitely earns her Iams . . .

15. Oh my
that looks like the cat we adopted-but without the fangs-and no extra toes. That is too much! No biting-only love bites, he is liberal with the scratches when pressed by the kids.

17. My Maine Coon has an alibi
Although he might have been advising online when I'm at work. He's basically two-thirds teeth and claws, one-third fur by weight. With a mean streak.

18. All cats are crazy, it's why we love them
I have an almost 10 year old little black cat named Miranda. I love her, she's sweet most of the time, but when she wants to go crazy, she goes crazy. Bouncing off the walls, chasing the much bigger dog, trying to smack me awake in the middle of the night, pushing framed photos off the shelves, etc.

Other times, she puts her face in mine and gives me kisses. She must be bipolar or something.

25. Six-Toed = Polydactyl
I have a couple of Polys. They are very sweet, however quite formidable with the paws. They love pennies for some strange reason.

I also have a very mean cat. She attacks for no reason and is brutal. We keep her in the back of the house because the other kitties beat on her. She's not a Poly. Feh, we love her anyway.

26. I had a cat once who
"attacked" and "ambushed," but he wasn't crazy, just having fun. He never hurt anybody, just rushed out and grabbed you around the ankle as you walked by, then ran off.

Once, when my husband and I were pressure-cleaning a lady's house, she told us to watch out for the cat, which she locked in the bathroom to be on the safe side. It was a real attack cat and hissed and growled at us every time it saw us. I'm glad the lady locked it up. A cat with claws extended and teeth bared is nothing to mess with.
