The Figure Skating Worlds...Short Program
Am I the only one to watch this? A lifetime ago, I used to be a skater. What annoys me is when the commentators go "she just fell". No shit. There she is sprawled on the ice and you're telling me she fell? I thought that was a new artistic move. Jesus.

I am already sick of Emily Hughes. She is not a better skater than anyone on the junior level. She seems so amaturish. If big sis hadn't won a medal, she would be lucky to be competing in regionals.

Sasha Cohen has been spending too much time going to parties. She needed to train, and she also needs to work through her little problem of choking during the Free Skate. She is gorgeous out there on the ice, and she can even make falling look graceful. But graceful falls are still falls. I love her Romeo and Juliet LP...if only she could get through it without any mistakes just once.

I am rooting for Fumie Suguri and Jo Rochette, but they have a long way to go if they want to make the podium at this point.

Just random rambling:yoiks:

1. Yeah, I've been watching all week.
I started watching the CBC coverage on Monday and Tuesday nights for the pairs and men's short programs. They had really nice coverage, I thought.

Sasha has an amazing short program. I really enjoy it, but she often falters during her free skate. And I agree with you about Emily Hughes. I just don't know if she has what it takes. I haven't been impressed with her at all this week. I love Fumie too, but Joannie ... I don't think she's going to make it. Her short program wasn't that great. Kimmie - she's our best hope for 2010, I think.

Yeah, I love the "she just fell" comments too. Gee, thanks, Captain Obvious! :D

Speaking of falls, did you see Johnny Weir's fall during his free skate? Um, OW? Man, it took him a long time to get up. You could really tell his back is killing him. I have back problems and I cannot imagine getting out there and skating like that while having back spasms. Yikes.

I love figure skating and am a total geek about watching it, even though unlike you, I can barely skate across a rink without falling down. :D

2. Yes...Ouch for Johnny....
He has so much potential and he seems to be wasting it. Maybe it is all of those feathers on his costumes:P.

Sasha has a GORGEOUS SP. She also puts a little personality and seems to create a character. She reminds me of Katarina Witt in that way. If only she can stay on her feet in the LP...Come ON Sasha....:D. Just this once....

I don't usually watch Ice Dancing, but the collision with the Hungarian pair was horrible!

Kimmie is good, but she needs to mature a little more before she can be considered great. Joannie is the opposite of Sasha...She is horrendous at Short, but she usually does well in the Free Skate.

I don't know if I could stay on my feet in a rink now...It has been a very, very, very long time since I have had skates on. But it was a fun few years. I can't imagine how difficult it is to be on that level. But I am a geek, so there ya go:P.

5. Prediction
I'm betting on Sasha to finally win it all this year. I think she may have had her "bad" program in qualifying where she placed 5th. At the very least, I expect a nice skate tonight and then we'll just have to see how her competitors do -- she's skating first within her group.

7. I'm watching the free skate now - some spoilers
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 05:29 PM by flamingyouth
Emily Hughes just skated a new personal best. She had a couple of mistakes but did a great job. Kimmie, Sasha, Fumie and Joannie are still to come. :)

Just watched Sasha - she was very cautious and wobbled a bit in the beginning, then fell right at the end, though she still leads.
