"The '60s" started in '68
Most of the lifestyle that is associated with "The '60s" was actually the '70s.

29. Answer:
Since no one guessed :P

I put what most people think of as "The 60s" from the release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (June 1, 1967) to the Rolling Stones concert at Altamont (Dec. 6, 1969)

44. If I'd been here earlier...
I'd have thought you'd picked 6/1/67 because it was pretty much the start of the Summer Of Love.

13. Most good 80's bands actually started in the 70's
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 02:01 PM by Radical Activist
which just goes to show that the 80's sucked. Tom Petty, The Ramones and Bruce Springstein are good examples. The rest of the good ones lasted into the 90's. Bands confined exclusively to the 80's blew big time.

12. Poor poor hairband fans
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 01:57 PM by underpants
I had this conversation with my wife recently. We went out to eat at a PF Changs :P and all the music was REM and The Cure and lots of 80's stuff that got ZERO airplay away from college stations.

I remarked that it must be sad that their (hairband fans) day in the sun will forever be used as an example of the worst time period for an artform. Wow that must suck. All those brainiac kids who they made fun of because they thought their whimpy ass watered down (from actual heavy metal) music made them tougher somehow now get to hear all THEIR music all over the place. Wow that must suck to have been so tragically tragically wrong. I liken the hairband people to W supporters-this will serve as a horrid example of a national lowpoint for the rest of their lives and their collective faces will be rubbed in it and their children will have to face up to it when they see the old photos and here them talk about it.

How utterly embarassing.

As a close friend said when he first heard Nirvana on the preeminent RAWK station that was hairband central in the 80's "Thank GOD"

We knew the end was near.

42. Er...
What about people who liked REM and the Cure AND some short-lived hairbands?

As an example, Britny Fox is a bunch of talentless hacks who got by with shrieking vocals and lots of hairspray. That doesn't mean "Girlschool" and "Long Way To Love" weren't fun to listen to in their day. :D

One of my favorite albums ever is still Def Leppard's Hysteria. Though they began in the 70s and continue to this day, they are still thought of as an 80s band. On the other hand, also in my top 10 is REM's Murmur.

And I don't care who knows that I like it!

I do have to say that even though I can't be coaxed into wearing pegleg jeans or leggings or stirrup pants again, I don't mind the return of the 80s preppie look.

With the exception of Pink Floyd, my favorite bands are Alice in Chains, Blind Melon, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, Primus, Nine Inch Nails, and Radiohead.

I get choked up looking at pictures of Layne Staley and Shannon Hoon.

My daily wear is old worn out jeans generally with a tear somewhere, t shirt, and a flannel shirt (if not a hoodie). With sandals, regardless of temperature or weather conditions.

I still think hemp chokers and bracelets are cool. Why don't I ever see anybody wearing them anymore?

Meh. This decade sucks.

35. I must agree.
The 80's were the best. The 70's featured disco and weak folk music, the 90's ushered in the era of the whiny "woe is me" garbage grunge and the rock/rap disaster. The 80's had Heavy Metal and Hip-hop before it was commercialized and destroyed. Culturally, the 80's ruled.

70's baby. All the way. We brought you:

This fine man:

Remember the gas shortages? Waiting in line?

And this lovely icon, darling to millions of wanking boys:

How can you not love this:

Look, we INVENTED streaking! Lotta johnny-come-lately wannabes, but we wrote the book.

Now, say what you will about disco. But you could dance to this music!

And, we gave the world this group of madcap tricksters:

So, bite me, 80's!
