Name A Movie Sequel That Should Have Never Been Made.
You know... where the FIRST one was a GREAT flick... but the sequel was a total disaster.

Not a masterpiece by any means, but the sequel makes it look like an Oscar contender.

It was a very different movie that the first one, but taken on its own it was enjoyable.

17. I disagree.
It's not that the sequels shouldn't have been made, but rather that the Wachowski brothers should have spent more time polishing the scripts.

40. I've come to appreciate this movie better actually.
I think Sofia C. got a bum rap. No, she's no (fingerquote) WINONA RYDER (fingerquote) but she answered the call adequately, at least she didn't cave under the pressure as did another young more experienced, better trained actress who was supposed to play the part but couldn't hang.

Also, I think she did a helluva better job than some of the Virginia-ham pezzonovanti (e.g. Eli Wallach).

63. I don't think Winona would have been better
but Sofia was not great. Nor was her counter part. I just didn't feel for them like I did the first generation in I and II. I don't know if it was actors, director (probably not), script (maybe), but something didn't work.

Actually, I thought this one was pretty good when I first saw it, but mainly 'cause I saw it *before* I saw the first one. After I saw the first one I realized the sequel was mostly a less-funny rehash of the good stuff about the first one. I guess I wouldn't call it a "total disaster", though; just maybe a little unnecessary.

41. You have to look at each Alien movie as a genre piece.
#1 was a horror flick, #2 was an action flick, #3 was a conventional drama, and #4 was camp.

And I liked T3. It had a downer ending, which used to be far more common in sci-fi, but sort of died off for a while. Plus, seeing it in the theatre.... the chase between the crane and the fire engine...WOW!

Carpenter's original was a beautifully rendered fairy tale (albeit a dark one); the sequel was a geek show, and offered up a revelation that destroyed the mystique of the antagonist.

46. The cinematography was better than the movie deserved
I do recall II being blanketed in oppressive, disquieting tones (that's gotta be the creepiest hospital in cinema); sadly, it's just a glorious sheen for a run-of-the-mill slasher flick.

Me? I preferred Myers as Evil Incarnate, rather than a zombie with family issues.

30. Rocky IV
Not exactly a strict "sequel to a great movie", but one of the worst movies ever, IMHO.

The whole "America-good, Soviet Union-Bad" theme, with it's rah-rah conditioning scenes showing both boxers and their "training methods" disgusted me.

Never a fan of Rocky or Stallone, I found the whole movie totally unwatchable even though I almost never STOP watching ANY movie.

OK, it wasn't a COMPLETE train wreck but it was a bit lame compared to The Hustler.

Now, I've gotta say that the scene with Newman and Forest Whitaker was priceless. It rekindled some of the spirit of the first film MUCH more than any of the scenes with Cruise's antics.
