What's the combustion point of a cat? (Pic)
We have wall mounted heaters in the bedrooms and offices. (Its the white, square thing in the picture.) The cat has been cold today, so she's moved from my office to the bedroom to my husband's office, toasting herself in front of each heater. She's rotating herself, so at least she's cooking evenly. When I asked her if she wanted her supper, she yawned at me and refused to move.

Is she going to set herself on fire?

1. My cat's been doing this all winter
Sleeping right up against the heater. She's lost a lot of weight and I don't think she's liking the cold much. :(

12. Angel's maintained her weight, but she's been pigging out, too.
She just had her 14th birthday and is ready to retire to Florida. Too bad we're not ready to retire to Florida.

Now she's sitting on the chair with the damp slipcover and complaining about it. I can't win with her.

(And in case it wasn't obvious, I am utterly enslaved to her and love her very much.)

2. We borrowed a heating pad
and my boyfriend's 21-year-old cat just LOVES it! We have to return the heating pad eventually so we are probably going to buy one for her. She deserves it!

7. Can you sew?
My cousin made some bean bags for her elderly cat (who has now passed on). Just heat 'em up in the microwave, plunk on a chair or comfy place & there will be a cat on it in no time! :)

14. Yes, I can! I'll have to see if she'll take me up on one...
She's middle aged for a Siamese (just turned 14) and wants any warm spot she can have.

13. She has one of those, too.
And she has a warming light (it's an old PHONE light from the Bell days with a fluorescent bulb in it that puts off about 20 degrees of heat above ambient).

She'd sleep in the dryer if I'd let her.

3. cats seem to like warmth
my kitty Felix is going on 16 and last fall finally moved to a place with a fireplace. Every time we have a fire he has a new favorite spot, whether we put a pillow there for him or not...

16. in our old house which had hot water radiators, we kept folded
towels on top of the largest units because the kitties loved to lounge on top of them and it made it a bit more comfy for them.

and in the house I had with electric baseboard heat, my cats and the dog were always plastered to those things when they were on.

They love electric blankies too.

4. You need burning gasoline to reach the combustion temperature.
That is, assuming cats have the same combustion temperature as humans and pigs (I assume it's pretty similar for most mammals).

5. Naw!
To get close to mine she's got to lean up against the heater while its going full blast or as high as you set it. A few of mine do that. Or if we use the fireplace they sit so close that if you touch them they feel like they just came out of the oven!

8. I was a little afraid to click on this post!
Pretty funny. Yes, it's been cold and my animals try to get the best spot by the furnace vents. Sometimes they have to share to fit.

9. She's not allowed on the heater vents and she knows it.
She hogs them and no heat gets into the room. She's been told off about it every winter for the past six. By this time in the year, she knows not to get on them. But we start over in October...

Of course, summer is fun when the temps get up in the 90s and the AC comes on... she hears the blower start up, goes to lay on a vent, and gets a blast of cold air. She looks at me in the NASTIEST tone of voice.

11. Our cats melt by the woodstove when it is on.
Someday we may even get to use the passageway between outside and inside to actually pass wood through, once the cats quit sleeping there all toasty.

15. only if she manages to get her tail down in the coils of an
old fashioned electric space heater. which a cat in my past did once.

EWWWW talk about a smell. Burned cat hair is stinky.

Old Jim took a while growing his tail hair back in. He was lounging on top of this big ole space heater with a large grid..(this was before anyone heard of product safety) and his tail fell behind the grid, close enough to the coils to ignite. He took off from that heater like a lightening bolt, but not before we smelled the singe. He didn't move until it got hot enough.

17. I have a large upright gas heater on my wall
with a little bit of space underneath it; there's a little door at the bottom where the pilot light is.

Neo sprawls across the hallway on his back and hooks his claws IN the pilot light door grill so he can bask in the heat with his head practically underneath the heater. I can't believe his little face hasn't burst into flames yet.

20. Siamese cats are different than most other cats
They LOVE the heat. They even like to sleep on warm radiators. I think she's fine. Their fur is shorter, for one thing, so they feel the cold more, but they have a high tolerance for heat and warmth.

Molten metal being pounded underneath and kitty is comfortable on a ledge above the inferno. Didn't even mind the noise ...
