2. No, I can't, because...
I don't have a journal. Just the Space Age Housewife stuff. I don't have enough material for a blog and a DU journal, and I've been feeling sad about that. I want a journal too! I just don't have anything to say!

Something that happened to me today: I was walking along on the treadmill today, reading a celebrity tabloid, when a friend of mine jumped on the machine next to me and surprised me. Instead of reading the trashy celebrity tabloid, I was able to spend the rest of my treadmill time talking with my friend.

9. I spilled coffee all over my laptop
Someone stole my favorite coffee cup, which had a spill proof lid. So I had to use a styro one. Of course it spilled, all over my laptop. So I took the keypad part out, dried off the edges before the coffee seeped into the board, and then used a heat gun to dry the keypad. Now it smells like burnt coffee, but it works.

12. I went to the Dollar Store today, to buy 125 assorted hygiene items.
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 05:34 PM by Bunny
This was for a work-related function, so I had the company VISA card. As I was unloading the supplies at the register, I asked the clerk: "you DO take Visa, don't you"?. Much to my shock, they do not. So I had to shell out $128.81 of my own money for that stuff. After leaving the store, I went straight to the company CFO and asked for a reimbursement check. Amazingly, he authorized the check on the spot!

Boy, my journal is really going to take off after this post!

They are stretchy, green, and accomodate approximately two legs. They're nice pants. Whenever I get new pants, I rub my butt alot. These pants are very rub-able. I also got them off a clearance rack for five dollars. That is all.

20.  I drove behind this stupid kid
around the time the high school lets out.

Well he stopped IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD to let his girlfriend out. Didn't even pull up her driveway. Just stopped in the street with me behind him. He was leaning in to give her a kiss and I pulled around him.

Then he sped up, caught up to me, and tailgated me. I was going a tad over the speed limit and this was a residential zone. So he tailgated and then sped way up and passed me, and THEN stopped a tiny bit ahead to pull into a subdivision.

ARGH!

22. Went CD shopping
but didn't buy anything. CD pricing is weird.

One thing I was interested in was a Rush CD for the nephew, one geared to his current skill level on the guitar. (See my journal if you're interested in the details.) The Retrospective collection was priced at $17.99. The CDs of the records where the songs originally appeared were $11.98 each. Feh.

I looked at some other bands for comparison. Every Beatles CD was $15.98. Every Rolling Stones CD was $16.98-- except there was a copy of Beggars Banquet (one of my faves) that had an extra sticker, 2 for $22. (But I couldn't find another Stones CD with the same sticker, let alone one I wanted.) Pricing on Yes and Cream was even more random. (Yeah, I am that old.) Coltrane CDs were $16.98; I forgot to check Monk.

I checked out some classical too, briefly. Since most classical music is in the public domain, it can be priced really cheap, especially older recordings, or starving Eastern European orchestras. There was a line of obvious budget CDs, newbie's guides to Beethoven or Tchaikovsky, priced at $7.99. And yet there was also a series of recordings of Olivier Messiaen, a 20th century composer I once even saw in the flesh, whose CDs were even cheaper: Quartet for the End of Time for $5.99, and Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant Jesus (a big sprawling piano suite in 20 movements, takes up two CDs) for $10.99. Somebody out there really wants to build an audience for Messiaen, which is fine with me!

26. Went to a funeral
A friend from work's girlfriend died this past week - cancer. I only met her once but I've worked with him for years - he's a good friend. Felt I needed to go and offer him my support. Quite a few co-workers went which I was glad to see. He's a good guy, pretty broken up. She was only 47, died at home in bed and he was unfortunate enough to find her. :(

Funerals are strange. This was a Catholic funeral and while I respect people's beliefs, I don't share them at all so it's odd for me to sit through these rituals. They mean nothing to me and I feel very detached as I observe. It seems fantastic to me that people actually believe this stuff about going to heaven and living with god - I don't mean to offend those who believe; it's just hard for me to fathom. I realize it offers people comfort and the hope that when they die, there's something else and something better. I personally have no problems believing that when I die, I just won't be here anymore.

Still, it was a nice service and my friend held up well. I hope it offered him comfort - I know he appreciated the presence of his friends.

Since the tree trimmers finished trimming my big ol' crooked willows, I was all, "Cool, now I can push up the teevee antenna." As I was doing so, the top mast section separated from the lower section — I went a bit too far — and there was that split-second of "If I try to save the antenna, am I gonna die?"

Fortunately, I managed to do the first and avoid the second. But there's no excuse for being that stupid.

Now — I ain't got a journal, so whadda I do?

52. I got pulled over...
... I was driving on Hwy 56 between Sherman and Whitesboro, through a little 500 population town called Southmayd.

I was yakking to my brother on the cell phone. Suddenly I see the lights behind me. Told him, "gotta go, getting pulled over."

The officer informed me that the speed limit was 55. I told him that I knew it was at some point along the road, but I was blabbing on my cell and didn't see the sign.

He asked for my license. Then for my insurance card. Then he gave them back and said "watch your speed through here".

Now, you gotta understand, these little one-horse towns in Texas generally write every ticket they can write. He started walking off and I asked him "you aren't going to write me up?". He said "no".

You could have knocked me over with a Kleenex. :)
